Madness has the potential to be broken. They are playing it safe. Madness cards seem playable in standard.

with Lightning axe as an enabler, i do NOT want to see a 'good' madness spell. that would make a very bad format.

What this set needed are cards with madness and cycling!

Time Spiral had it as a madness enabler and it was a super awesome format.

Big Game Hunter was awesome and....Reckless Wurm? EDIT: I realize those were later in the block. In Triple-TS, the best you could hope for was Dark Withering or Fiery Temper, and sometimes Nightshade Assassin. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Yeah I guess so. I failed to mention that I meant nothing new for madness is good enough to make it a viable deck in contstructed (namely legacy). It's such a fun mechanic, but is pretty unplayable as it relies on a lot of things, like recurring gy stuff, etc. I'd say it's not competitive at all simply because there is so much gy hate already in everyone's sideboards that just kill the deck. Dredge has this problem, but dredge can easily be broken and is actually a thing - not to mention the fact that it isn't interactive, which I cannot stand. Madness is very fun and has so much potential, but just isn't there for competitive play when other unfair decks exist. That's the format I guess - just had high hopes something could make it a viable deck to play in the format. Since the mechanic isn't broken, I didn't think they had to play it safe and could actually print something bonkers, but forgot about what it could do to standard. I really wanted a colorless land that had madness! Maybe the next set will keep it going and contain something that will make an impact, we shall see.

i am going to give Alms of the Vein a whirl in Pox. Pitching it to Liliana or a Smallpox/Pox seems good and lord knows a 3 point life swing can help turn a Pox deck around. __________________ NEQUAQUAM VACUUM MOTL Tools Chrome Extension

UG Madness remains one of my favorite decks and I never tired of playing it in tournaments. It was the first deck I almost made T8 at a PTQ with and I have played it casually a few times over the years. I would love for some form of madness-based deck to be a thing again. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

Dang right, I love it. My version is red green, found it more explosive and I love firestorm. I kept trying to add blue, but found it not quite as good. I also use vengevine in it. Had a casual unpowered vintage version with survival of the fittest, it became unfun when I realized I could keep pulling that off by turn 3-4 and tried it every time. I have been wanting to use Dac Fayden for this as well, but don't own any and get too busy thinking up the right build. Shout out to rootwalla while I am at it. Madness is fun, would love one game breaking spell with it.

Oh shoot, not sure how I missed Alms of the Vein. That's not too shabby. I am not used to black for madness.

If there is a deck in standard, it's likely BR Vampires. The pieces seem obvious...although whether it's a GOOD deck or not remains to be seen. You have solid enablers in Olivia, Heir of Falkenrath, and Ravenous Bloodseekers. Lightning Axe is also good in some matchups. Falkenrath Gorger is a decent one drop, and Fiery Temper/Alms are not to be ignored as madness spells. Avacyn's Judgment seems pretty nuts with enough enablers on stand by. Asylum Visitor and Incorrigible Youths are probably good as well. Kalitas is obviously awesome, and will continue to see play no matter what. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

Weird issue.. Ok so tonight I had this happen.. played in a small prerelease. Every one opens their pools. I get a illusive vampire guy and the proper checklist for it. I also get a promo illusive vampire but that doesn't come with a checklist. So I ask how can I play both since I only have one check list and no sleeves. I was told I would have to get a checklist or buy sleeves. Problem.. since its small prere not many ppl the only other people who pulled those checklists intended on using them. I tell them I can't find a checklist and Im not going to be forced to buy sleeves.. I'm not intrested in $11 dragonshields which is all the have. Again small store so they don't carry a wide variety and they know dragonshields are popular and edh is popular in our area. S o thsts all they stOck. Not to mention I had already spent my money and my last $4 was for food after. I'm aware I could have braught my own sleeves but I didn't think of it. So I ended up just playing the 1 vampire. since I didn't want to throw a stink or anything. Thoughts?

That's unreasonable. At the very least they should have made an exception to the rules, given the unique circumstances, and allowed you to write the card name on a basic land. Obviously you could prove you had 2 if necessary. SMH

Agree. That's just a feel bad for the customer, the manager should have just let you write on a basic land or other card that clearly wouldn't be in your deck. I understand that they were following tournament rules, but this is prerelease and it's suppose to be fun. I am sure your "fun" was diminished because of this. I wouldn't go to that store anymore if I were you

My pool included Arlinn and a foil Nahiri. I made the mana work to go 3-1. Soooo many ground stalls though, reminding me why I dislike sealed.__________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

I played 2HG and ran into zero ground stalls. We had one good deck and one pile everything else and got beat. 0-2 drop.I like 2HG, but I wish the matches were more than one game and the stores around me didn't always 'start' them at 7 PM or later. Mostly the time thing though.

This set is fun as hell to play. Thing in ice triggered and it basically ended the game
