Hello again, MOTL! Long time no see! For those of you who don't know, I had monitor troubles (no, NOT the hacker, thank god), and I was without a computer for 11 whole days! All I can tell you is I survived. I didn't like it, but I survived. And as soon as I get it back, I have to leave the next day for vacation!

Well, I'm on vacation now (I'm in my grandparen't house), and I decided I'd write a special edition of Tedman's Tales, where I talk about Magic away from home.

Now, in November, I took a little week-long trip to California, where I visited Neutral Ground in Mountain View (outside of San Fransisco). It wasn't a very long drive from Palo Alto (where I was staying). I was also supposed to meet Leshrac, but that kinda fell through(). I went there to hang out, buy some cards, get the lowdown of what was going on, and eventually enter a Type 2 tournament (don't ask how I did; I can tell you one word - "scrub"). So I hauled out 'ol reliable Stompy, and sat down for my first match against one of the regulars. I don't know what happened exactly, but he beat me horribly. And boy, was he a sore winner. He was cocky, arrogant and belligerent (a stereotypical American). The same happened for my next two matches. I got beat by arrogant regulars. Then I won one by the skin of my teeth

The funny thing is, the metagame was exactly the same as where I live (quite far away from California). There was Stompy, Wildfire, Black Control, Mono-Blue, the works. I saw the exact same decks. but the people were different. I talked to the store owner about the incident with the first-round opponent, but he couldn't do anything (or just didn't). Anyway, it kinda shocked me how similar the game was in these two totally different places.

Now here I am, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and I want to play Magic. I know that Nebulite (one of my friends from home) is also in Montreal. I had also gotten a few responses to my query topic, which I just might look into.

Later this summer (2 weeks, actually), I'm going to Cliff's (and my) hometown of Toronto. Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with him. But again, when I talk to him on ICQ, the metagame seems the same as Halifax (where I live).

Of course, you can always argue that the best decks are everywhere, but that's not entirely what I'm talking about. In California, I saw Rogue decks similar to those found at home. People played the decks the same way.

So my point is, wherever you go to play Magic, it's all the same. Magic players play Magic. It's that simple. Anyways, I'm off to enjoy my vacation, so this is Tedman (Moderator), signing off.

I don't know why but stompy can't win in the current environment. Maybe after Urza block rotates out it will do good but then all the key cards will be gone so either way stompy does not look like a good choice. I always used to play stompy and i still do for fun, but when it comes to tournaments I don't play it anymore since my DCI rating dropped below 1500. And since I stopped playing it my record and my overall ability to play has increased greatly. Moral of the story: don't play the same deck all the time, variety will make you learn new things and make your overall playing abilty better.
