OK, just the other day I went out to grab a Tolkein book when I saw this TopDeck magazine. I'm usually out of the Magic mags, but this came w/ a Prophecy booster so I got in. I was SHOCKED when I read it. Being made by Wizards, I would hope they would know what they are talking about. Consider these instances, see if you agree.1) In a list of Top 5 Prophcey cards in Constructed play, Silt Crawler was all but WORSHIPPED. Why do they think this card is great? It's converted cost is 3, for a 3/3, but you have to tap all your lands. Why not play a Trained Armodon, whose converted cost is also 3, for a 3/3 with NO drawbacks. (Except possibly a white border). 2) In "the Ultimate Rebel Deck" every single rebel was used. One notices that GOOD rebel decks search for guys that cost 3 and under. This is the SPEED that makes them win. Plus, only 2 Crusades and NO Glorious Anthems were played, along with 24 land!!!! Including a Cho-Mannos fountain!! 3) A "very versatile" card drawing engine was made up of 4 cards!! (Chimeric Idol, Well of Discovery, Creature/Lands, and Grim Monolith). HA! 4) In the top 5 green cards in Limited play, Wild Might wasn't even MENTIONED. In top 5 green Constructed, it was 5th! WHY! Wild Might is amazing! Much better than the green wind, ranked 3rd if I remember correctly. 5) Rethink was considered amazing. Why??? This is a not-so-sure counterspell that might not work for 3!! The mag said that blue doesn't have a good turn 3 counterspell and this fills that void. (Quoted roughly) Uhhh.. one would notice that in Limited this is OK, but in constructed? No. Way. Well, I could write more, but you get the picture. What do you guys think? Am I totally wrong? __________________ e-mail: potsiewebber@hotmail.com "Somebody hates me and I hate somebody too" - Reel Big Fish Reflist - http://classic.magictraders.com/reflists/MashedParsnips.html

Actually the sad thing is, that was one of the better issues. Don't believe me? Then just look at any issue of the magazine that doesn't talk about a new magic set. Topdeck is by far the worst gaming magazine, and it just makes everyone want the Duelist back even more.

I don't understand why decks they print in magazine are so bad. I believe they can build better! And if somebody has Magic: The Gathering -computer game (Microprose), take a look at decks there... Also, precons are pretty bad too. You can build better decks with only commons... There are usually small combo between the rares, but otherwise they suck. But in Prophecy precons, there are too good cards (Mageta, Woe, more...). And BTW, Silt Crawler IS good, if you play it on your 2nd turn (via elf or bird) you have lands tapped anyways. -Pekka

Ill agree with you on all the first 4, except Rethink is good. It proves as 2 uses, makes them tap extra mana, or just counter the spell. And another its more splashable than most counterspells. And I think its better than Power Sink, by alot. Mainly its good cause it can be splashed into like U/B Control, U/R Counterburn. But I agree with you on the other 4 points, espically the Silt Crawler, why not use a Trained Armadon?? __________________ "Sticks and stones break my bones, but whips and chains excite me." What other kind of Magic magazines are there? The price guide was also INCREDIBLY screwy in TopDeck. 10 bucks was the highest price for a Port!! Ha! I'd LOVE to buy Ports for 10 bucks (they're being sold for 24 here).__________________ e-mail: potsiewebber@hotmail.com "Somebody hates me and I hate somebody too" - Reel Big Fish Reflist - http://classic.magictraders.com/reflists/MashedParsnips.html

Well people MIGHT use trained arodon, only if it was T2... Other than that, yea, everything about right I suppose..__________________ cmoore@visi.net

Why? Well, not only is it t2. But also it is only one green. Which might help in multidecks. And the drawback isnt really that horrible of a draw back.

No, just play all other spells first, and then Silt Crawler. I don't see why it sucks. But it's not that amazing either.

Trained Armodon was reprinted in 6th edition, so it is type 2 legal. The only reason someone would play Silt Crawler over Trained Armodon is if they were worried about the double green mana in the Armodon's casting cost.

Yeah it was reprinted in 6th, meaning it is T2. The only reason not to play Armodan over Crawler if it was a multicolored deck, and its kinda of a sucky drawback in multi colored.__________________ "Sticks and stones break my bones, but whips and chains excite me." Slit Cralwer isn't that bad. It's pretty good in drafts and it revolves around stuff like Citidal of Pain, Chimaric Idol, Veteran Brawlers, ect.

I used to read Inquest...now I read Topdeck...why?...simple...open a new inquest...look at the articles on magic...wait...did I make that plural? eek: Inquest has nothin but advertisements, a price guide, and a list of mtg cards...there are 1 or (if youre lucky) 2 articles on Magic, 1 or 2 on Pokemon, and the rest is all advertisements. What happened to the good old Inquests???

Idea; READ THE THING! There are more then 5 articles in the newest one. And a couple, god forbid, run over multiple pages. And what happened? A different game came out. A game that appealed to a younger audience. Why so many pokemon covers? A 6 year old collects pokemon cards, sees pikachu and has money buy it. More money. They sell to a wider audience.

HEY!!! Rethink is one of the most versitle counterspells i have yet to use. It work especially with the rystic spells. Silt crawler 2G When silt crawler comes into play, tap all lands you control
Helloooooo, is anybody out there. When they said you can run an engine using well of life /discovery they weren't kidding. I ran a red green engine like that with citidual of pains and other things. Then you use grims and keys with that, you got a great deck. When you read topdeck you have to open your horizons to new possibilities(excuse misspelling). I took their idea of the black and blue counter/discard/avatar deck. I changed like 10 cards and now it is a type 2 deck that completly rocks the tournys i go to. In extended, i use force of wills with that to ruin the day even more. Topdeck doesn't suck, you just gotta use that peasized object in your head called a brain more often when you read their articles.

i hate topdeck, i understand that pokemon is more popular right now, and it sells more, but i loved it when they had duelist, i learned SO much from that magazine...now, whenever i pick up a topdeck, i learn how to make a crappy deck, and i learn how to recognize pokemon by their silouhelettes (sp?).__________________ If you are reading this, then please, give me a good offer on any cards I have...God knows I need them.

The only good magic magazine is The Tome because it isnt out to make money and it is written by people who know what they are talking about... the players!__________________ "People believe that if I say I'm gonna kill someone in a song, that I actually mean it. I think that what everyone forgets is that top deck is geared toward a lower calibur of player. Dualist is never coming back *sniff* but inquest is still good. top deck price guides are also the prices that wizards thinks that the cards should be booked at, not necessarily what they are worth. and if the store is selling ports at $24 a pop then he is ripping off his customers big time, port may trade for about 12-14 dollars, but should never sell for more than 10. my local store has a 2 for 1 deal on all magic cards, its pretty sweet.the chimeric idol/well of discovery/citidal/well of life card drawning/damage dealing/life gaining engine is good (just only in MBC). __________________ "Battle doesn't need a purpose, the battle is its own purpose.
