Well, first of all I wrote this as I read his interview so that I could better fit things together and work individual things out. Also, if you wont wish to read the entire interview this points out alot of the major things concerning magic in it.And to those who say pokemon is the tool of the devil I think Mark summed it up perfectly with his response to this question:
Do you believe that Magic has become more mainstream in the past few years? If so, what do you attribute the greater acceptance to?
"In one word: Pokemon. While many Magic players like to deride Pokemon, I think they miss the big picture. Pokemon proved that trading card games are something big. Bigger than just the hobby gaming industry. Hundreds of thousands of kids were introduced to trading card games through Pokemon. And guess what? One day they will outgrow Pokemon but will still be entranced by the idea of a trading card game. And where will they turn but to Magic? Recent data, by the way, shows this to be the case"
This perfectly sums up what I have been saying all along, but I never went into an entire paragraph on it.
Moving on to the next subject, when asked about seventh edition Mark could only comment with this sentence:
"Finally, while I can neither confirm nor deny anything, I will say that there is one wild rumor out right now that's absolutely true"
And what rumors besides foils, and bb are out right now? None, which means one is true. And since it was explained to me before that only bb cards could be foiled() I think this is evidence that seventh wil be bb.
Alright, and concerning kicker. Here is something interesting I read about Unglued two that involves this ability:
"I don't know when it will see the light of day, but I can say that it was very near completion when the expansion was put on hold. If players are patient, I do believe Unglued II will see light eventually. As a little taste, you might try picking up Invasion. One of the new mechanics in it was originally designated for Unglued II."
Hmmm, I think that Wizards is running out of ideas. As you can tell buy their reprinting of certain cards in Invasion that are will leave t2 when Urza's is gone.
Moving on Mark commented on the direction that Magic is going from now on when asked about player interaction:
"This result is several key changes. First, the game is slowing down such that one player cannot win before the opponent has a chance to play. Next, R&D is being much more careful with certain mechanics: fast mana (you won't be seeing any lands producing more than one mana any time soon), card drawers, and cards which allow players to get around the converted mana cost (like Tinker or Replenish). In addition, R&D is much more conscious about combos that allow a player to win before the sixth or seventh turn. It should still be possible to win by turn five or six, but it will be done with an aggressive creature deck."
I love this idea, when Urza's was released it got out of hand with The Academy decks, it was insane. Now they want creature based decks? I dont see how they can get rid of non-creature decks...I am sure that people will find a card that slipped by them while developing set and break it until there are hundreds of variations on the same deck. Most likely the majority of decks in the larger tournaments will be based around the 1 or 2 cards that they screwed up and released. While trying to slow down the game I am sure that they will mess up and even if ONE card slips by I am sure not that many decks will be equipped to handle the power of the person breaking that card. Now the field is actually pretty even. Certain major decks can beat other major decks, yet the game is FAR too fast. I am not sure if this is the way they should go about it.
Overall I cant say a single thing about the future of magic. They seem to say certain things, and end up somehow messing things up to the point of almost ruining the game. Then they realize what they did wrong, and at least they fix it by banning the card. Hopefully magic will only get better and better in the future.
