Recently there were some articles about Sligh decks, starting with the one from Jay Schneider about Brawler Sligh. The Sligh deck I played before Invasion looks something like this

3 Goblin Patrol
4 Kris Mage
4 Veteran Brawlers
1 Keldon Vandals
2 Keldon Champion
4 Chimeric Idol
1 Arc Lightning
3 Rhystic Lighting
3 Hammer of Bogardan
3 Shock
4 Seal of Fire
2 Pillage
4 Tangle Wire
2 Ghitu Encampment
1 Dust Bowl
4 Rishadan Port
15 Mountain

It isnīt completed and tested much, but now there is Invasion...and there a strong new enemies for our poor Sligh:

Harsh Judgement

As many controllish decks will crawl out of there holes, white will be seen quite often. And any player who plays white and expects Sligh will put Harsh Judgement in his sideboard. That hurts a lot!

Teferiīs Moat

The turn after he played Harsh Judgement, he plays Teferiīs Moat. Now Chimeric Idol must bring victory...ooops, Disenchant...

Tsaboīs Web/Teferiīs Response

Bye Ports, bye Dust Bowl. Will hurt lots of decks though

And Iīm not mentioning all the other stuff against monocolor decks.

Well, what does Red get? First, the cards that are going out of the above deck: Goblin Patrol, Keldon Vandals, Keldon Champion, Arc Lightning, Ghitu Encampment

Now, from Invasion come:

Goblin Spy

Well, just kidding, but itīs on of only two R CC creature that can attack without other creatures from other colors...

Lighning Dart

Not too bad, we should see lots of White and Blue creatures! Still not good

Overload

Substitutes Keldon Vandals. You might just take another Pillage...

Scorching Lava

Sligh still has enough burn spells, otherwise this might be useful

Skizzik

Sure take. Substitutes Keldon Champion. 2 of 'em should do!

Tectonic Instability

Powers up your Veteran Brawlers. Shuts down Ports. Yours too, but Chimeric Idol does too, so Sligh should play this when using Veteran Brawlers.

Urzaīs Rage

Maybe one main deck and some more sideboard against counter decks!? Forget about the kicker though.

This does not look too good, eh? So what if we take green in? Itīs no Sligh anymore, but well, we need two colors I think. What can we use??

Kavu Lair

Maybe I will try this one out. I have at least 6 creatures with power 4 or greater in the deck. Iīll try one in the deck?!

Kavu Titan

How cool. Small or large, this is always nice!

Scarred Puma

This is the other R CC creature. If you play with some green creatures, 2/1 for R isnīt bad, right?

Stormscape Apprentice/Master

The Apprentice is nice. The Master is HUGE! Maybe less Burn and more creatures may be nice in this deck...

Verduran Emissary

Not too bad. But there are better cards. Try it in playtest.

Artifact Mutation

This is better. It gives you green creatures for your Pumas, and destroys Tsaboīs Web. Sure take!

Fires of Yavimaya

Maybe this is worth a try too.

Overabundance

You are playing burn. Your life is worth nothing. Your opponent will not like to take one damage whenever he taps for mana.

Yavimaya Barbarian

Play this! 2/2 for GR is good, and he has Prot blue.

Shivan Oasis

Need I say more?

Well, I have no Invasion cards but from the Prerelease, but my first version of G/R Sligh will look something like this:

3 Scarred Puma
2 Yavimaya Barbarian
2 Kavu Titan
4 Veteran Brawlers
2 Skizzik
1 Thunderscape Master
3 Chimeric Idol
3 Tectonic Instability
3 Rhystic Lighting
2 Overabundance
2 Hammer of Bogardan
2 Artifact Mutation
4 Seal of Fire
2 Pillage
4 Tangle Wire
4 Shivan Oasis
2 Karplusan Forest
7 Mountain
6 Forest
4 Rishadan Port

Other cards that might prove worth playing are Meteor Storm, Tranquility (sideboard), Troll-Horn Cameo, Keldon Necropolis
Card that might prove worthless are Port and Tangle Wire.

What do you think?

What I'm thinking now is that Sligh on its own is dead, but when you mix it with Ponza, it can be quite good. Here's an example:

4 Stone Rain
4 Pillage
4 Shock
4 Seal of Fire
4 Skizzik
4 Hammer of Bogardan
4 Veteran Brawlers
4 Tangle Wire
2 Flowstone Overseer
2 Tectonic Instability

4 Port
2 Bowl
18 Mountain

You might want to give that a try.

Whatever version of red you play, be sure to include (at least in the side board) cards that can take care of pro-red creatures. One Crimson Acolyte on the board can ruin your day. And ponza better look out for the W/G deck packing Harrow.

Youīre right, thatīs what I meant. Sideboards will include cards like Crimson Acolyte or Harsh Judgement or Teferiīs Moat so monolored decks will have a very hard stand. So maybe twocolor decks are better off in T2, even if they look weaker from the old point of view!?
