Hi,

As you might know already, i quit MTG a few days ago. This isn't necessarely a permanent quitting, i might "jump back to the train" few months later. In this article i'm going to explain why did i quit.

Reasons:

1) No friends to play with.

Well, if you don't have any players to play against, you really can't play Magic. My friends quit one by one, and at the end there was only one player left, me. From the people i know only my cousin plays MTG (and he lives about 100 miles away ), and he has about 20 Magic- playing friends there, so i don't think he needs one more.

2) Money.

Shipping costs from Finland to US is about 1$ per an envelope, and i have traded to US about 70 times now. So i've just wasted about 70$ to online trading, and my parents said that it is too much. Of course boosters and single cards are expensive too, and high-school student like me doesn't have money for anything but books.

3) No time.

As i said earlier, i study in high school now, so school takes almost all my time i have. When i have some free time, i have sports, guitar playing etc. Even though my friend would still play MTG, i'd wouldn't have time to play with them. Sad, isn't it?

4) The new T2.

I don't know why, but i hate the new type 2 environment. I can't really explain this much better, but let's just say that environment which best cards are Urza's Rage and Skizzik, along with nasty Port and Wire, just isn't for me.

There. Feel free to post any comments here!

I understand and agree with you completly on this topic. I think it is not only good but necessary to take a brake from Magic every once in a while. This goes for almost everything because eventually you'll get tired of it and start to hate it. But if you take breaks every once in a while everytime you come back you will like the game even more because of new cards and sets.
I for one quit after Exodous, not planning to come back, but here I am I started playing again in Nemesis and I like the game more than I did before. Even though a lot of my friends don't play I still love the game and collecting and playing ocassionally. The only thing I regret about quitting was missing the realeses of all the Urza's sets which I now realize was probably one of the best blocks ever.
As for the money thing this has always been an issue for me. Most of the time I have to spend my own money on buying cards but my parents will buy me packs from time to time. They are also willing to pay for stamps which is a blessing because like King Masticore I have made 70+ trades online and at least 30 or so were out of US so that is like $30 + about another $25-$35 for all the ones within the US. So it does get quite expensive but for now I just want to keep going because my interest in the game is still growing.
Anywho... I hope you still visit us here on the boards

I also quit playing Magic a few years ago because in my town, nobody was playing. Now there is a new Magic-Store and I did start again.
I think I'm addicted to MTG.

I think I'm the opposite of King Masticore...I am addicted to Magic by my means; there is almost nothing else I can think about. I really NEED to quit for a while (wasting all my money too), but I can't!! Please help...I'm serious!

I also really like magic by i'm quitting too. Never played in tournaments besides in GP Porto and Invasion Prerelease because I never have a good deck (Trying to build a Nether-Go) and these tournaments were sealed deck format.

Also magic is too expensive. Just to know, how cost a booster in US? Here in Portugal is about 3 Dollars (700 PTE), is it cheaper or not?

And the only friend I have that plays magic is like me, bad cards, bad decks.

I've set magic to the side many times. The gaming environment is very speratic where I am, everyone's playing one month and out of it the next. I quit at Legacy and returned just before Invasion; I rarely have a type 2 deck because by the time I get enough cards to construct a deck, Magic falls out of favor.

I quit magic when Urza's saga came out. i got back in during urza's leg. came out and have been playing since. i play a few other card games with my friends (pokemon, tomb raider, x-files) and i play magic with my brother. i have to buy packs with my own money and the stuff i use to send out cards too. i play magic before school and on the bus ride home (i have an hour and half ride!) i love this t2 even more than the ice age t2 (my fav. cuz of ice age)thats just my view of this topic, sorry if i rambled on.

After reading your article, I think the only good excuse is the money part, if you can't afford this stuff, fine. But saying that there isn't anybody to play with, that is just fine as well, but APPRENTICE can help you cope, you will find somebody online to play with you....also, to say that you have no time is BS, high school is a load, but I can always find some time to play and sort and the like, this seems like a BS article to me.

squee_is_god: Not agreeing with this article is one thing but saying its a "BS" article is another...i suggest you use constructive criticism
This article brings up valid points. And yes, some people dont have enought time for magic because of work, family, studies etc

Oh my god.

I have heard of upping month-old posts, but this is from two years ago. The Articles forum is a ghost town, for chrissakes. This is not the best way to get Apprentice help!

The answer to your question is that you need the Onslaught patch from E-League.

I feel for the guy. I mean, seriously, URza's rage? skizzik? this sucks! I mean, who would play with those cards? (and now, you just take a look at voidmage and shake your head in shame at these comments... maybe magic is going to turn out to be casting 2/3 creatures for 4 mana.ie. hurloon minotaur)
