I am writing this article in response to the countless tournaments I couldnt enter because of Type 2. I dedicate this article to all other old players like me who have been through this.Well, lets start where this story began. I began playing Magic in 7th grade, that was 1993. I was drawn in by the pictures, and strategy, and teamwork, and treachery. Well, 1993 was about midway through revised, and I bought pretty heavy of that set. I knew there were other sets available to buy at the time; unlimited, dark, some legends, but revised were the first cards i ever bought and thats what i stuck to. I kind of regret not getting those unlimited packs now seeing as how i coul have gotten a mox or 2, but back then i was just obsessed with the first thing i got to see, revised. Anyways, 4th edition, fallen empires, ice age and homelands came out within 2-2.5 years, and i eventually decided to experiemnt by buying some of those sets in between. Luckily i soon realized the worthlesness of fe and hl, and i felt it stupid to buy 4th since i already bought 3rd, so i kept my buying to IA only. IA wasnt that bad of a set, it had some good cards at that time; remake of icy, minions of leshrac, sibilant spirits to go along with my mahamottis. Anyways, by this time i had spent a considerable amount on cards, and when mirage first immerged, i quit for a time. I put my cards away, but never forgot about them. I wondered why i spent so much money on peices of cardboard, i wondered how me and my friends could have spent so many hours playing and trading, and i wondered what new cards were like. Well, one day I went by the local card store, and decided that maybe it was time to atleast look at some of the new cards and sets. I bought a pack of the lastest set, exodus, and opened it. The cards were a little mroe powerful, alteast i thought, and when i showed some of my friends the new cards, they agreed. We agian started playing and buying magic, which was thankfully right before one of the best in my opinion, Urza's Saga. All of this time though, I remembered commiting that i would never spend as much as i did on magic before. I was able to keep this commitment because at the age i was then, i was a little less interested in Magic seeing as i was older. Since then till now, i have been able to keep my spending to a minimum, buying only from sets that i really thought were good, and only trading for cards from sets i thought that werent worth buying, Planeshift for one. The only problem with this is that i dont nearly have enough cards to make a decent deck for t2 tournys. I have tons of good cards, its just that they are too old, and even when they are semi-new, t2 changes and drops 3 sets at a time. This personally angers me a lot because i feel like i am being rejected by the game i enjoy so much and have supported for so long. Not to mention that the onyl really good sets in the past 3 years have been tempest, US and invasion, and maybe UD. I mean why waste money on crappy sets that wont be usable in tournament a yr later. Anyways, I want all of you players out there who are new to the game and spending like theres no tomorrow to remember this story. All those cards you buy now, though maybe valuable later, will be unplayable in the game you enjoy so much. And to all those older players who have reentered magic after a break and have to spend a boat-load just to play, i want you to know your not alone. I'm bumping this thread because it seems to include a common sentiment now adays. the above statement that Jordan made is %100 FALSE! I came back to magic after 3 years off. You know the moxes, time walk, balance etc? THEY STILL WORK? Amazing isnt it? There is this wonderful thing called Type 1. Sure they restricted my 4 mana crypts, necro and academy, and now Mind Twist is legal again. But so what? It's not like they banned black lotus from play. If you're that dead set on playing type 2 then live with it's crappyness. Type 2 is the devil and people just give in to it.

I played casual being at chronichles. From there, I got 2 packs about every 2 or 3 weeks. I didn't get into Homelands that much, and FE wasn't out long enough. Alliance is my favorite set, put that was only in print for what, two months? Mirage was great fun, even if I didn't get a lot of the reeally good rares. I also got majorly into WL, and I had every single rare from that set, but I foolishly traded things like Hammer of Bogaden, Heart of Bogarden, and others, for crap from Chronichles, just because it was an uber-powerful card or it had cool artwork. I was still little (probably about 7 with WL, my brothers 'helped' me out). And then Tempest came out and I really, really liked it. I got a bundle of jazz from that, and soon enough, we moved to MD. I just got back into Magic around January this year. And, unfortunately, all the cards I used to think are good now seem to hold no presidence over the newer ones, because they aren't legal or what not. Like Jester's Mask, Timmerian Fiends (a fun card if and only if you're playing for ante), and more. I'm fet up with it, but I'll just have to walk down to the comic store here that sells rares for 10 cents apiece. Too bad I just found it!__________________ My have / wants list-----> http://classic.magictraders.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/126381.htmlAim:ShadowFenix01, MD and GD regulars give me a shout.
