Okay, since MOTL boards have so much questions about Apprentice installing & patching, i decided that it would be much easier to compile all instructions to one article. Here goes:Part 1. Downloading Apprentice.
You can download Apprentice from either E-League or Dragon Studios . By clicking either link here you will soon have Apprentice file coming to your own computer. If it asks something before downloading, choose "save to hard disk ". Mostly is is sensible to save all "packet files" to one directory, so save that file to My Files or make a new folder named Zips or something. Part 2. Installing Apprentice.
Remember where you saved your Apprentice file? Good. Now go into that folder and double-click Appr146.exe. Follow the guidelines which will soon appear to your screen, and soon you will have Apprentince installed at your computer. If you don't change the directory, it will be installed to C:\Apprentice. It will create a shortcut to Windows's Start menu, and by clicking it you can start Apprentice. Have Fun! Extra Part. Patching Apprentice.
Patch can be downloaded from E-League or from Dragon Studios . Again, do the same thing as you did when downloading the Apprentice program, and save it to same folder. This time you'll need Winzip to unzip the patch file, and winzip can be downloaded from here . Winzip is installed exactly like Apprentice, just double-click it and it's installed. Then, double-click the patch file (in this case either approracle.zip or oracle.zip) and choose Extract To and insert the directory Apprentice is installed in (usually C:\Apprentice\). Part 3. Playing with Apprentice. Before setting up connection:
It's better if you get ICQ or some other chat program to contact your online friends. Setting up connection:
Now you safely have Apprentice in your computer, and now you want to test out your killer or non-killer decks & combos against your killer or non-killer friends. So lets begin. First, open up Apprentice (i'm sure you knew that), choose 'new game' from the 'file' menu and you should see your current decklist. On the right, there are two "radio" buttons (those circle thingies), and choose 'Connect via Internet'. You see your IP number at bottom (something like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, ranging from 4 to 12 numbers with 3 periods between them) and give it to your friend. Now check the "wait for call" and click ok. Now your friend inserts your IP into the 'calling at' -field and the connection should be made now. Of course this can be done vice versa, so you call and your friend waits. Known problems when making connection:
Sometimes when you're connected to Internet via a network, and it has some kind of firewall on, your opponent can't call you. You should be able to call him, but if you can't, ask your network administor if something could be done. Also i've noticed a memory bug in Apprentice, which causes a crash while connecting via internet. I don't know how this can be fixed, i got it working when my hard disk was formatted, but that is kinda too big operation for such a small program. I hope someone does a patch for it. How to play, the basics:
Now that the connection is made, you can now play just like you'd play normal magic. Your hand is at the left, and you move cards into table by clicking a card and dragging it into the playground. Firstly, you've got to decide who is going first. Click on the 'action' menu and 'Roll a die' or 'Flip a coin'. Then, the game is ready to begin. Turns can be changed from the arrow button at the upper right corner, and you can draw a card by clicking the 'book with the arrow' button at the upper left corner. I hope this helps if you're having problems with Apprentice. E-mail me for any questions. EDIT: I noticed that Dragon Studios has its server down, so you can't download those files there. Use only E-League links. __________________

Thank you very much for writting this article. I hae been trying for a while to get the expansions installed, but I didn't know you had to Extract the file. I put up 2 topics on MOTL trying to get some help, but each time someone just told me to go to e-league, then right away a mod would shut down the post saying that my question was already answered. Anyways, thanks again for this article.

Make sure you've unzipped in right folder. If you are, then download it from a different web site (e-league or i-magic, try both) and try those zips. __________________

I have downloaded all of the apprentice files into C:Program Files. I have downloaded off of both sites listed. I still don't have any mercadian or invasion block cards.

Is your Apprentice in C:\Program Files\Apprentice? If it is, just unzip the patch file into that directory. __________________

Alive!how come when i have aim on or another program i get these weird pop up messages that prevent me from seeing cards and keep popping up when my opponent tries to do something? It works fine when everythign else is closed but it would come in handy if I could keep AIM on and stuff instead of going on and off... help!

Hi, Everything was going very well, and the same day I got it all installed I played a few games... this was on a cable modem. I liked it so much I installed it on my laptop, except it wouldn't allow me to play via the net. If I called (or they called) nothing would happen. Any clue what might be happening?? I later went onto another, non laptop computer... this one with a phone line and the same thing happened. I want to play as this computer is the one I normally use... the cable modem is at another house. I seriously need some help or advice, please lmk what you think the problem is. I am not able to extract or get any cards after Urza's Destiny. How come?I do have cards, just I am not able to get the patches to dl and to work right. help please! ~Revenger __________________

I still have a problem, I've installed my Apprentice in a directory and the updates too but everytime I start the deckbuilder the progrem can't find the cards. After this accured I zipped the patches into every Apprentice file (yes I know it sounds stupid)and my library dissapeared. After this I installed the program again with the patches in the same map (not in the sets map) What should I do. Should I replace the files to Program Files/Apprentice and put the Patches in the sets map ? A simple yes or no will do __________________

Ok, i really need help. Alittle while ago i had everything except Odyssey and went to d/l it. After i did i unzipped it into the right directory and loaded apprentice. I looked on Expansions and my Card List but it had no Odyssey. Outta frustration i deleted my Winzip and my Apprentice thinking it was bugged and d/l'ed then both again. Ever since ive been trying to get ANY updated patched but it wont let me. All i have is Alpha-Urza's Destiny. When i d/l it the Winzip screen automatically comes up. I click agree and next and POOF, its not there. It has the title of it at the top which is like Oracle[1].zip or Approracle[1].zip or Odyssey[1].zip. Does ANYONE know why it wont show it and why that 1 is appearing on it?! Thanks alo, hope you can help. Im tired of testing decks with blank cards  __________________

i did everything i was supposed to do i extracted to the folder and was asked if i wanted to overwrite? i did then tried but still no new cards??? im confused__________________
