After reading this thread in more depth, i must say: Hate to be a party pooper, but exactly how is this article relevant? This is not an article about magic, but just a complaint about something that could have been prevented with street smarts. quote: "What is wrong with the world today?"The quick answer to that question is that people as a race are scum. You heard me - the human race is a race of lying, cheating, selfish, murdering thieves who have no conscience or feeling for others.
tedman, plz don't tell me that was the climax of your article. This article shouldn't be "wah wah wah, oh and now thou shall console thy wounded heart by concluding that the world is made up of scum just waiting to exploit poor little innocent me." This article should have been an urging to others to be more alert, followed by a few tips on how to reduce the chances of being violated. It is far more realistic to ask honest players to keep a close watch on their belongings than it is to ask everyone to hold hands and pray that the bad people in this world will magically dissapear into thin air. Nobody in here has the power to wipe out the evil in this world. Since some people left this thread wondering what they can do, I will help them out. #1: Take as little as possible with you. Be realistic about your trade binder when you go to tournaments with three hundred people. It's disgusting how some people will bring four binders, twenty decks, then scratch their head in awe one something dissapears. #2 don't leave your cards exposed anywhere, not at tournies, not at school, and not at your job. This may sound like common sense but if everyone had common sense, this thread wouldn't be here. About leaving your cards in the car. put them in your trunk. If someone REALLY wants your cards, they might break in but if you put them in the trunk instead of in the back seat where ppl can see them, it'll be less likely to be stolen. Some people complained that their cards "were stolen from them". To the majority (not all) of them, I would say "nobody stole them from you; you gave them away." They make it sound like it's some great hardship to keep the cards in their backpack like the rest of us who haven't had their cards stolen from them. #3 Keep track of signed cards in case someone robs you. You can call local dealers and help them catch any thief who may have tried to pawn them off. Of course the chance of robbery is far smaller than the chance of getting you cards stolen while you're distracted. #4 Don't make yourself a target. A) most crime is targeted, which means that victims are conciously chosen based on how easy the target is and his or her reputation. To cut a long story short, people who appear unalert, irresponsible, rude, or cocky are most likely to have to have their cards stolen. B) The idea behind this is that the thief knows that if the "victim" is a jerk, less people will push for a serious investigation; more than likely, you will hear a few people mutter under their breath that the victim "deserved it". Whether or not the victim deserves it is open to debate, but at the end of the day, abrasive behavior increases your chances of getting your cards stolen from you. If Billy helps new players by giving them free cards and helping them build their rareless decks while Jimmy insults people's rogue decks and brags about his wins, take a wild guess who is going to get their cards snatched first. quote: If the human race weren't scum, don't you think our planet would be in better shape than it is? Wouldn't third world debt be erased?
wow that is a very naive statement Just because someone is poor doesn't mean that it's the result of evil. If you ever take an economics class, read Thomas Robert Malthus. All the good faith in the world cannot negate the fact that resources cannot grow as fast as human populations. And besides, do you REALLY want a society where everyone receives their equitable share? That's hostile to anybody with merit __________________ MagicTutorial.com teaches people how to play Magic

Dude, why are you being such an (insert another word for donkey) ? He got his cards stolen (LOTS OF MONEY IM SURE) and im sure by writing his article he was thinking it would alert people to be more careful leaving their cards around. quote: #1: Take as little as possible with you. Uhh...and what if you go to a big tourney with "as little as possible" and someone asks you if you have such and such and if so he will trade you TONS for it only to remember you left it at home? quote: #2 don't leave your cards exposed anywhere, not at tournies, not at school, and not at your job. Yea but he had been going for quite a while and after a while im sure you can trust people to not take cards...i mean there cards, its just low for someone to do that. He was just sharing his feeling about his unlucky experience.

But that's not the point; people shouldn't even put themselves in that situation. That's like saying "we shouldn't go to school b/c it's possible to be successful in life without an 8th grade education". __________________ MagicTutorial.com teaches people how to play Magic

Firstly, you are wrong in your main point. In cases like these, MOTL "laws" rule. Sure you have the right to express your opinion (which is why you're not getting banned for your post), but there are certain rules on MOTL, some of which may restrict you in certain things you normally wouldn't be restricted in (such as cursing ("People are scum" is not involved in any "restricting" rule, you are just as allowed to say that as Ted is. Mods have no extra rights whatsoever of that kind)). Secondly, you're highly exaggerating; you sound like a guy who has just consumed a way-too-large amount of alcohol, and let himself flow along with his thoughts. If Ted tells some people to stop whining sometimes, that's because he feels that way about them. If he gets a bit more touched by his cards getting stolen, he has the same right to express his feelings and opinion as whoever, whenever. On this topic, everyone on MOTL has the same freedom and restrictions. Don't compare MOTL to the U.S. in general, because that's useless. THIS IS MOTL AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN GET OUT OF HERE. I believe I've said it earlier... but freedom of speech is a lot like communism; good only in theory. In real life, true freedom of speech cannot be allowed, because people would abuse their "rights".And yes, Josh is just about the finest example of why I think Americans are one of the most ignorant/arrogant people on Earth (that's an opinion, so when you consider attacking me, attack my opinion instead). Comparing MOTL to States is stupid. __________________ Am I the one you think I am, or just the one you didn't expect? My current karma: -4 "Repent sinners, for thou shalt soon be delivered!"
