We decided to play a few decks that will be Standard format come November. We managed to find twelve players with enough Odyssey to make it a somewhat competitive tournament. This took place at Hairy T in Toronto.
I decided to play Neo tempo because I really wanted to see if i could abuse Standstill. Game one
The fist deck I played was an LD deck using some green to accelerate the mana curve and some red spells. It was a pretty easy matchup.I countered a few early spells and Diverted an LD spell then layed a few creatures out. Standstill then joined the party. I ended up drawing about seven extra cards asnd coasted home. Idid not sideboard fo game two. I took a bit of damage early but managed to lay a few ceatues out and a Standstill again. I soon contolled the board and won.
Game two
Neo stompy is tough. His deck came out quick and fast. I lost game one simply because i could not chump enough creatures and take control.
I side in Repels and Leaf Dances. Game two was quite diffeent. Once Leaf Dancers hit the table, I bounced and countered until i got my Standstills. Mystic Snakes finish the onslaught.
See game two.
so far so good -
games 4-1
matches 2-0
I need one more win for semis.
Game three
He's playing an Angel deck. This was not even difficult. I just held out and made sue Angels did not hit the table. I noticed discard so i kept Divets handy and sided in the 'Pods. Game two was easier.
Games 6-1
Matches 3-0
Okay. I admit that I'm feeling cocky.
Semis -
I play a B/R deck that desttoys me fist game. Discad, Spectes, Teminates, Skizziks, et all run me over. I never got going.
Game two has repels (so so) and the great Dodecapod go in. This is much better as I get going early, counte a bit Divert a Discad spell stabalize and play Standstill.
Game thee is much like game two but a bit closer.
Whew
Finals
The wheels come off. I play a WW deck that has an answer for anything i play with po and Lynxes and pump and...
Sideboading does little for game two.
The deck I played
4x Nimble Mongoose
4x Blurred Mongoose
4x Wild Mongrel
4x Gaea's Skyfolk
4x Mystic Snakes
4x Memory Lapse
4x Temporal Spring
4x Standstill
2x Exclude
2x Divert
4x Yavimaya Coast
10x Forest
10x Island
sb:
4 gainsay
3 repel
4 leaf dancer
4 dodecapod
Overall it perfomed to perfection. Both Mongeese were awesome ( especially against the B/R deck). Standstill was often broken.
No cards were wasted in the deck as I could always discad to the Mongrel.
Memory Lapse poved very useful. I was told it was weak without Predict but I had tested Predict and was not impressed ( I had better uses for those slots - Exclude and Divert).
I know there was an Opposition deck and a Lich in the tournament but they got rocked before I had a chance to play them.
How does Tempo beat ww though? This seems to be a major problem. I would stay with the deck if I did not think it had this autoloss as I expect a number of WW decks to be aound.
