Wow. Thats all i got to say when younger players play against the more experienced. I was recently watching a JSS(im too old to compete) at a popular store in which high level players chill and playtest and what not. I was helping some of my fellow players who are slightly younger(12 and 14) that happen to play at the store where i usually play at. I tell them the tricks of the trade and the way to play around certain idea and both recently acquired 1700+ ratings. Well during one of the matches a starting yelling at one and making fun of the 12 year olds playskill. The one cracking jokes happens to have a 1800+ rating and goes about the boards here. He also made it to the JSS championships last year. Well after reading his tourney report and witnessing it, all he does is complain and laugh at the aspect of younger players. Considering they were both 3-1 at the time, with the 12 year old beating him the first game and narrowly losing the 3rd game. Well the older player decides to laugh at his simple mistakes and poke fun at him for some play errors, which easily any player could make. It does go deeper with store rivalries with how good each of there player is(as the store where the jss was held is moving into the territory of where i play and the younger player happens to play). Magic players should show respect for the younger players as the majority of them make up the game. Yes some may have little play skill, but thats because the older more experienced players refuse to help them, but rather just rip them off of good cards. Like i will see 10-14 year old *newbies* as they are coined come in with foils of the hot chase cards like foil birds and foil calls. Yet get hounded by other players for there cards. I know not every player is like that, but from the several areas that i played and many tournaments i played in, it happens alot. With no help going towards the younger generation players, how are we going to keep magic alive. Younger players would obviously get upset of being the butt of most jokes, leading them away from the game. Well, just try to help out the younger players in your area, they will be the new face of magic if you wish for it to continue.

I agree, poking fun at and ripping them of their cards is not a good way to welcome a new player into the magic community.

i think your are totaly right about not making fun of younger players. if we did not have younger players coming into magic where would it go? they would not tell there friends and there would not be the next john finkle(sorry if i spelled his name wrong his is god!)i feel the old players should help the younger one's biuld decks and make good trades. not make fun of them and there skill level. we were all at the beginer level at one point in time ps. im sorry about my spelling

this wouldn't happen to be at The Only Game in Town would it? if so, did you send them a relativly nasty letter? if so, pm me. we should talk.anyway, pro tour regulars are more concerned with their own results than teaching newbies. the best people shouldn't have to teach the worst. they shouldn't make fun of them either, but it happens. you've never made jokes about scaled wurms? people think that the best players should be teaching everyone. they shouldn't. people should learn from those who are a little better than them. the best players should teach the next generation of best players, not the newbies that still have a ways to go. they also shouldn't be jerks
