This is my 1st big tourney/pre-release and my 1st tournament report. So if I make any mistakes please don't flame me. Since I couldn't really write down notes about each round I'm probably forgetting a lot of details about each game.

I went to the Torment Pre-Release in New York, NY. I got through to Neutral Grounds ok, no middle fingers sticking up at me or my dad. Only a couple people beeping a us, because we didn't move the second the light turned green. Finally we got to a parking place about 1/8th of a mile from Neutral Grounds.

About half an hour before the tourney started I traded with about 4 people, one of which wasn't the very nicest person in the world. The tourney started so we got an Odyssey Tournament pack and opened them up. Then came the 3 Torment boosters, I got crap in them. We deckswapped and this kid (I traded with before the PR started) around my age across the table from me pulled a Foil Mutilate . After the deckswap I built the following deck which was UBG:

7x Swamp
5x Island
5x Forest
1x Tainted Isle
1x Roar of the Wurm
1x Crypt Keeper
1x Waste Away
1x Basking Rootwalla
1x Childhood Horror
1x Morbid Hunger
1x Skywing Aven
1x Putrid Imp
1x Centaur Chieftain
1x Patriarch's Desire
1x Aquamoeba
1x Gloomdrifter
1x Cabal Torturer
2x Crippling Fatigue
1x Cephalid Looter
1x Rites of Refusal
1x Wild Mongrel
1x Dreamwinder
1x Dematerialize
1x Possessed Centaur
1x Nantuko Blightcutter

When the guy announces its time to look at the list to see who you're playing I look at the list and see Jesse (Jesster289) and Kyle (manaprince) on the list. Anyways, here's the crappy tournament report (BTW, I'm 13):

Round 1: Forgot your name (BUW)

Game 1: I play a turn 2 Wild Mongrel then follow up with a turn 3 Cephalid Looter. He then casts Faceless Butcher and targets my Wild Mongrel. I eventually kill it with my Aquamoeba. He then casts Faceless Butcher again and gets my Mongrel again. I get a Cabal Torturer out with Threshold and kill his Patrol Hound and Pianna, Nomad Captain. In the late game he gets out Ambassador Laquatas and mills me for 6. Then I Patriarch's Desire it with threshold. On the last turns of his life, I have a Crypt Creeper, Wild Mongrel, Cabal Torturer, Gloomdrifter, Basking Rootwalla, and Skywing Aven. I cast Centaur Chieftain w/Threshold and kill him.

Game 2:

Basically the same thing as game 1 except he never gets an Ambassador Laquatus, I cast both my Crippling Fatigues, and there were less turns. The guy gets mad because he was beat by a little kid and he was like 20+.

Record: 1-0, 2-0

Round 2: Mike Searle, Inquest Editor (UG)

Game 1:

He gets fast beats out like Seton's Desired Thought Nibbler, Basking Rootwalla, and squirrel tokens. I lose eventually because of the many creatures.

Game 2:

He casts a couple of 1cc creatures then casts Acorn Harvest. I get out a Wild Mongrel and then a 6/6 wurm token. He kills the 1st one by double-blocking with a Wild Mongrel pumped to 4/4 and an Arrogant Wurm. Next turn I cast a Roar of the Wurm and a couple turns later he concedes.

Game 3:

We trade off creatures and Waste Away a Wild Mongrel. Then I use Rites of Refusal and discard Roar of the Wurm. Next turn I cast Roar of the Wurm and shortly kill him a few turns later.

Record: 2-0, 4-1

Right after the game I say, "You're the Inquest/WizardWorld editor right?" He answers yes and says he would've dropped anyways, yeah right (lol j/k). There's still about 15 minutes left to the round so I go back into the room where NG sells all their stuff and find my dad holding some McDonalds food. I eat and get ready for Round 3.

Round 3: Benjamin Tull (UW)

Game 1:

He gets out Militant Monk, Mystic Familiar, Compulsion, Mystic Pentinent, and Stern Judge. The turn after he casts Stern Judge, I Crippling Fatigue it and cast Skywing Aven. I try block then discard to bounce it back but eventually he kills me with a lot of creatures.

Game 2:

He starts off with some weenies but I Crippling Fatigue away his Hallowed Healer and others. He is manaflooded so I easily beat him when he has no creatures out.

Game 3:

A repeat of Game 1 except that he gets a Sphere of Truth out and my Putrid Imp is useless and my Childhood Horror only does 2 damage to him.

Record: 2-1, 5-3

Ben is a nice guy, so I talk to him for a couple minutes to wait for a judge/staff to come over to write who won, then I finally leave. I said to myself that if I lost the next round I would drop out. I then watch Jesse and Kyle play in the booster draft (side event) since they lost in the Sealed Deck.

Round 4: Bob (RW)

Game 1:

He got a Pitchstone Wall out which he I removed in several turns. But by then he has Possessed Barbarian, Pardic Lancer, and a Confessor which killed me with a Rites of Initiation.

Game 2:

He got color screwed in the beginning so I discarded a Roar of the Wurm to a Rites of Refusal to counter his spell. Next turn I cast the Roar of the Wurm. Lets just say that he got beat pretty quickly.

Game 3:

He gets a Pitchstone Wall out. I put a Patriarch's Desire on it and attack with Aquamoebe, he blocks, I switch the power/toughness, both of them die. I finally got a Roar of the Wurm out but he already had like 3 creatures. He gets me down to 3, and plays Sonic Seizure. Oww...

Record: 2-2, 6-5

I finished playing and went to watch Jesse and Kyle finish their 1st game. They both lost one game and dropped out of the draft . I told the tourney coordinator I was dropping out then went to trade with them.

Overall, it was a great experience! Since it was my 1st ever big tourney I was pretty nervous in the beginning. I don't want to brag, but I'm proud of myself even though I got 2-2, at least I won a game .

Good article, no real huge grammar or spelling mistakes come to mind. Only thing I can think of, is maybe a little more detail. Otherwise, good job.

Good job describing the games, but when I read a tournament report, I want to read all the extra stuff. You know, about the one guy who got a cool foil rare, the one trade where you got whateveryougot and the random incident with the chicken. That sort of thing adds flavour to your writing.

Dude! Awesome job beating the Inquest guy, did you tell Searle that his magazine sucks after you thrashed him?

whoa, you did awesome! way to represent, especially for a younger player. i started playing when i was 13, and i could never have done that well in a tournament (probably couldnt now. although somehow, my 120 card green white deck took second place in the only tournament i ever played in, like 7 years ago.) really great job!
