So I sent a member on this site a package on 2-3-11 with some stuff, namely a foil japanese tezzeret, agent of bolas, and it still hasn't shown up. We've traded before and the two things I sent him express mail both showed up quite quickly, but this and another trade I sent around the 10th of that month have not shown up yet. This is not altogether unsurprising since it took about 3 weeks both times to get mail from him, and I still haven't received one package he sent on the 12th of that month, but it's fairly frustrating since I'll be out a lot of money if they don't show up.Anyway, I filed an official investigation request with the japanese post office, and got a call a bit later on saying that regretfully the Canadian post office has no agreement to search for missing mail, and as such the Japanese side of things can't do anything because Canada won't provide them with information about any packages. Does anyone know of a way to make a request through the Canadian post office? I realize things get lost in the mail, but I know my address was correct, packing was well done, and of hundreds of card packages I've sent over the last two years (mailing selling on ebay), these two shipments are the only ones to cause trouble. It could be the trade partner is lying but I highly doubt it since he's always sent things and is seemingly less concerned about the issue than I am, so I'm not really worried about that possibility (just mentioning it now in case someone posts this possibility in response). Mainly I'm wondering if there's anyway to nag the Canadian post office, and perhaps if it is getting returned to sender, how long would that take? I've heard that process can take a while. Furthermore, how long should we wait before we make out some sort of arrangement and consider the mail lost? Unfortunately that foil tezz is worth some ridiculous amount and very hard to get ahold of, but I guess that's the danger of trading on motl. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I can't really help you find out, but in the month of February I had two small shipments just disappear. And I'm shipping from Pennsylvania, USA.__________________ send ref checks, paypal payment or any questions to the email in my profile! Returning to sender is ridiculously long for nothing... can take up to 3-4 weeks sometimes. I hate Canada post :/I wish Purolator were more accessible and cheaper. As for ''disapearing'' or ''lost'' shipment,I don't beleive in that. Everytime my cards didn't get to the guy/gal I was trading with, his/her h/w list changed with the same exact cards I've sent.....but with the MOTL rules, I had no choice giving them the benefit of the doubt and sending them another shipment to compensate. That's why I have a new rule on my list, stating that I'm not responsible for lost/stolen/damaged mail and they have to state that in a e-mail..... funny thing, I never had any lost/stolen problems since then. Odd eh?

Mail does get lost. Packages get damaged and the addresses become unreadable. I have had registered parcels disappear more frequently then non-registered.All undeliverable mail ends up somewhere in storage for 6 months or a year. Canada Post can't simply just throw the mail away if they can't deliver it. For western Canada I believe it is in Winnipeg. For other parts of the country I'm unsure where the storage despot are. Even though these facilities exist I am unsure about how to make a claim for undelivered mail. You will have to call Canada Post and find out. Unfortunately that is the risks of sending unregistered. It is very difficult to find out where it ended up and you will get no compensation if it disappeared. As for the compensating people for lost packages well I guess that is your responsibility. For future trading make the person responsible for paying for registration. It is a common practice on this site and ebay that if people don't want to pay for registration then they are responsible for lost mail.

This is why I only ever sell absolute junk -or- $100+ cards. One I dont lose much if they get "lost", the other I ship tracked.
