My lease is up and I'm trying to find an apartment in the janesville/whitewater area in wisconsin. I have to be out of the apt by friday before noon. I have four cats, and I love them to death!!! I am worried that I am not going to find an apt on time. What should I DO????? Can the landlord throw me out as soon as the time comes with the police?? If so, I'm going to be homeless because I refuse to sacrifice my cats just to find a living space by friday. What recourse do I have???? I'm really terrified that I will not be able to find an apt in time that is cat friendly! ANY HELP OR ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT. I have checked craigslist.org, nomoredorms.com, facebook, etc....I'm waiting to hear back from someone

I don't have a clue what the laws are for the US, your state, or your municipality, but you do have a few options. Remember, however, that usually only the police can throw you out, not the landlord, and you typically have until midnight of the day your lease expires (if your lease goes from the first of each month, you should have until midnight of the first, not the 31st--although since it's mid-May, I guess that doesn't apply.).*Put your cats up in a kennel for a few days/a week or so while you search for an apartment. *Have friends or family care for a cat or two while you search for an apartment. *Walk around different neighbourhoods and call the numbers on "for rent" signs. That is the single most effective way of finding an apartment. Ask about cats immediately, and if the response is positive, ask to see the place. You should be able to find a place within a day by doing this--although the more time you spend doing it, the more likely you are to find a place perfectly to your liking, rather than just merely adequate. *Check Kijiji or whatever your equivalent is. Facebook and craigslist are singularly crappy for apartment listings. *Once you've secured a place, plan ahead for next time. Good luck. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. EliotRIP Ari Legacy UGB River Rock primer. PM comments/questions. The best advice would have been not to leave this to the last minute. Move to a jurisdiction that bans "no pets" in residences? Ontario works. You realize, by the way, that you are giving a very strange picture of yourself to us with this last string of posts, right? Did you even talk with your landlord? Landlords are generally happy to let you keep staying in exchange for more money.

Maybe ask the local law enforcement if they could speed up your internet harassment/stalking situation and your intent to not pay any fines and possibly before Friday the Sheriff could accommodate you...

I took all of your advice and paid the fine.... yes, I'm quirky, but aren't all magic players quirky? I mean all of you are not the chillbros with the backwards baseball caps???? Come on, I never said I was a perfect citizen geez.

Have you checked the news paper for apartments in the surrounding towns? A lot of people are still not using the internet.

If you're on a lease you should have had time to prepare knowing This day would come eventually. Worst case stay at a hotel with cats At a kennel until you find something. Perhaps you should stop surfing an mtg site and start surfing local Classifieds (newspapers etc.)

I prefer to be called a 'hoarder'. I am offended at the use of the word 'quirky' when describing my collecting habits. I don't however collect furry dependents. I can't imagine why a landlord would not want to renew a lease to someone with 4 cats. Maybe you could consider buying your own house so you be as pet friendly as you like.

I know it's a little further away, but have you tried anything in the Lake Geneva/Williams Bay area? There are quite a few places over this way renting, plus there is a card shop close by in LG. Just a thought.

Have you even tried to work it out with your current landlord? Like maybe asking for an extension of time?

Cats or homelessness? Hmmm... Seriously though, I think you need to have someone watch your cats for a little while if you need to figure things out!

I do not play magic the gathering anymore. I do not owe any cards. I play online with mws occassionally, so being close to a shop really does not mean anything to me. As for the above post, I'm attached to my cats. I love them like a son or daughter. I cannot just abandon them. I took a civil duty to raise them and provide them with a loving home where they get the best food and plenty of attention. To put it this way, all of you like magic the gathering. How would you feel if someone said you had to throw away all your cards and never play again???? How would you feel? I'm pretty sure you would be upset because all of you have thousands of dollars invested in the game and a reputation of being a good player. Even though this is a terrible analogy, it is emotionally the same.

You neglected to answer the other, more important question. If your lease is up Friday, why the hell are you looking for new living arrangements THREE DAYS before then, and not like, three weeks ago?__________________ "He fights you not because you have wronged him, but because you are there."[16:17] <@BrassMan> what do you need new tech for? I wonder if you're of sane mind enough to care for the animals you profess to love so much, I mean, get your junk together man... 5 days before your lease is up isn't the time to go apartment hunting.

So... you're not a magic player anymore but you call yourself a magic player in an earlier quote. O.o got it. quote: As for the above post, I'm attached to my cats. Eh, not really. If I were forced to choose between Magic and having a home the cards would be out the door faster than it'll take you to read this sentence. Besides, exactly how well do you think you'll be able to care for 4 cats when you're freaking homeless? quote: Originally posted by airwalk: I wonder if you're of sane mind enough to care for the animals you profess to love so much, I mean, get your junk together man... 5 days before your lease is up isn't the time to go apartment hunting.

i found a house with 3 other roommates... they were incompatible. When I mean they were incompatible, they were drinking every night, the one girl had a rap sheet of possession, underage drinking, etc. Also, she had a violent bitchy temper when drunk or in a bad mood. Therefore, I backed out last week

Sounds to me like you found 3 typical college students.Try and rent out a room from an elderly lady (they like cats right?) or something... or a bachelor apartment, etc. Roommates don't sound like they are going to work for you, everyone always finds something that annoys/bothers/upsets them about their roommates habbits... but, it's up to you to get over these things because it's going to be the same wherever you go.

A guy who refuses to leave behind 4 cats complaining about roommates with incompatible lifestyles? Oh the irony. __________________ "Where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost." -- Ronald Reagan

You are coming off very ignorant sir. This is a misnomer. Not all college students like partying, doing drugs, and getting involved with illegal activities. Yes, you can bring up my harassment charge but that was a civil matter, not a criminal matter. I apologized and paid the university fine. Also, having an illegal weapon, doing drugs is much more severe than an online troll harassment charge. I just want to graduate next year and get on with my life. I do not have the desire to behave like an ass under the influence etc.... ok, one of you is going to post something like this, so save yourself the time and let me do this: "You make an ass out of yourself either way so waht is the difference under the influence?..."" ok, fine whatever. But, mine is not on a day to day basis.I'm a good person, just a bit misunderstood. My father was abusive to me which probably effected my social skills, but I assure you I'm perfectly normal. I might act immature from time to time, but it has been getting better slowly (which is good because some people do not change)

lol @ possession and drinking charges. Those aren't even real crimes. Go live with your damn parents. How does a college student have the time or money for four non-fish pets?

you're an ******* and an idiot. yes, driving under the influence is not a real crime, you are so right. Drunk driving and fatalities are trivial. People should be just given a minor traffic citation for those because everyone does that **** right? I'm done here. Oh, and btw... I sold all my magic cards back in 2009 and use that to feed and provide my cats. My cats imo are better than magic the gathering (at least now), maybe not when I was a teenager. I mean it is pieces of cardboard. I would never spend anything more than 20 dollars for a piece of card. Cats are awesome, and shame on you for patronizing my character because I own wonderful animals. I might become a vet because I enjoy working with animals so much. Also, volunteering at an animal shelter and taking care of cats is more noble than playing mtg volcanon

Yes, you are the center of the universe and everyone should marvel at your awesomeness. Here's a newsflash: People don't care about people they don't *have* to care about. This goes for your landlord, for us, for anyone else you encounter on your quest for new living space. Do you honestly believe you are in a better situation now than you were before you cancelled on the 3 people you were going to live with? Without a backup plan?
