For what it's worth, I'm on the ninth floor of my building and have been told not to bother taping the windows. I've so far seen only two apartment windows taped up around my area, but a lot of people are taking their window a/c out. Also be sure to clear your balcony of furniture, if you have one. Most of the windows in modern buildings (in NYC at least) are supposed to be able to withstand winds up 125 mph I've read, so this shouldn't come close to that. Not that taping your windows is a bad idea if you're on the fence, though. Just a pain to clean after the fact

The problem with windows isn't about them being blown in, but rather debris being flung through them, shattering the glass. The best way to do it is to just cover it with plywood... from the outside if you can, or from the inside if you can't. You can also use plastic (like what we use to insulate windows in the winter around here, lol) but it's still prone to being torn through. It will help keep the rogue glass pieces from getting inside, but not as well. the plus side of using plastic is that it doesn't block the light.__________________ Check my List! **I send in bubble mailer + top loader + soft sleeve**AtriumXP@gmail.com (e-mail/PayPal) I answer ref requests! You're all welcome to come out to San Diego until things cool down over there. It was 80 degrees at the beach today without a cloud in the sky and virtually no wind.

It's windy outside, obv! The dam power keeps going out but comes right back on. At least 10 times so far.

I dunno about everywhere else, but here in delaware Irene was just a big ol' letdown. Or, I just got insanely lucky, cause I've heard of others who live between 10-20 minutes away with flooding and/or power outages, while I've been completely fine.__________________ It is a known fact that more Americans watch the television than any other appliance.

We had one power outage here that lasted 15 seconds. However, other parts of my town have been out all day. I'm two blocks from a plaza that also had power, so their Papa Johns, McDonald's, and a Chinese restaurant were all open. And fricking PACKED.We have some friends over to play multiplayer chaos Magic and we decided to grab some pizza... I ordered it online and set it as carry out I waited at home for about half an hour before I went in... I've never seen 20 customers packed into that tiny storefront like that before. I got a storeful of dirty looks when I walked right in, picked up my (prepaid, too!) pizzas and left under 2 minutes total. I should note that quite a few people in RI, and even my city, have no power right now. I'm part of maybe a four-block radius that never really lost it. __________________ Check my List! **I send in bubble mailer + top loader + soft sleeve**AtriumXP@gmail.com (e-mail/PayPal) I answer ref requests! Well, I'm not crazy far away from N Kingstown but I don't know what areas have power and what areas still don't Our house is fairly crowded with wife and 3 kids, and no offense intended but I'm betting it would come across weird to even offer since I don't know her. There's only a couple of hotels in this area but I only left the house once today, and didn't go anywhere near them. I'd say a hotel is probably the best bet, but I really don't know of one that definitely has power. It sucks but I'd say it's worth a shot to go through a phonebook for the Kingstown area and see if any of them have room? __________________ Check my List! **I send in bubble mailer + top loader + soft sleeve**AtriumXP@gmail.com (e-mail/PayPal) I answer ref requests! Take a look at this map... it's actually pretty bad right now for most of the RI area:http://www1.nationalgridus.com/narragansett/stormcenter/ The major issues are probably for those who have electric stoves and thus can't cook food Also it certainly sucks if you have young ones that aren't coping well with the dark, boredom, etc. Another thing that might be worth looking into are local shelters - I know they turned Jenks Jr. High (across the street from McCoy stadium) into one but my brother told me it's already closed since the storm mostly passed. EDIT: Also, sorry for the double-posting, but another idea came up. Maybe they could split up with family, 2 and 2? __________________ Check my List! **I send in bubble mailer + top loader + soft sleeve**AtriumXP@gmail.com (e-mail/PayPal) I answer ref requests! Hey guys! Power is back on (THANKFULLY!!!) Boy, was it majorly boring yesterday though. And the funny thing was, the houses that are right behind out apartment building, had power. Having two teenagers during a power outage is extremely NOT FUN. Am spent most of yesterday and last night complaining about not being able to watch TV or do anything. TJ played Magic with Tom and I, and we all played a game of Munchikin. Me, Am and TJ also played Uno. We all sat around talking for a while too. Two tress fell down yesterday morning, out in the back of our building, and there are TONS of trees and power lines down over in Coventry. Some IDIOT parents let their kids go outside yesterday morning to go and play on the damn trees. While it was still majorly storming out too. In fact, one of the trees that was next to the fallen ones looked like it was going to come down, right on top of the kids. Freakin' parents.
Thanks, Jazaray

I live very near the OBX of North Carolina, and I went and stayed at my parent's up in Va Beach, seeing as we were all under mandatory evacuation. Apparently my neighborhood was without power for 2 days, and some of my neighbors had some small trees knocked down. In Va, we never lost power, so we just sat around playing video games and some magic.Trag3dy

@Jazaray - glad to hear you guys got power back; I'm sure that's a hell of a relief There are still entire sections of Pawtucket area without power, and several major intersections with non-functioning traffic lights. Some have traffic cops... many do not. I work for a large hospital system and one of our main facilities was on generators overnight (just got power restored this morning). On a positive note, Irene took literally every cloud and all our humidity and dumped it onto Canada, so we had a gorgeous afternoon outside lunch this afternoon, ahahaha! __________________ Check my List! **I send in bubble mailer + top loader + soft sleeve**AtriumXP@gmail.com (e-mail/PayPal) I answer ref requests! Just got back from the eastern shore of VA and saw this, figured I'd add my .02.- The storm started about 24 hours before the hurricane arrived. - Power went out about 12 on Saturday - Wind really picked up about 4 o'clock - High tide was at 7 PM; the water was about knee high 200 feet from the ocean around 5 or so and sea grass was coming in. - Around 7-8 the water was waste high and in full force; we had a moat around the house at which point my dog decided to play Jesus and walk on water (sea grass). Basically, I was outside and just heard "Splash!" then saw high going for the grass, hop on it and sail on! - Went to bed shortly after this and woke to see what happened. It was not good. - If I could post a pic I would, but don't have them w/ me, but basically there was roughly two football fields worth of sea grass and other debris to clean up. We had no tractor available to help is the clincher. - We were told any debris you had to put out on the street and it would be taken away, so we did. We had 2 rows of grass, one on each side of the street, roughly 4 feet high X 6 feet deep X 150 feet long and then the state came. - We continued to put the debris out, not to the clean-up crews delight. They removed roughly half of it, but there weren't enough trucks to remove all of the debris. Then came one of the head guys from the state. - Upon seeing us he said " Stop!" and as he approached he began saying something along the lines of "don't put anymore debris out on the road or I'll have you all taken to jail!" Furthermore he added "as it is now, my guys have you on tape taking this debris out on onto the street" he then went on, from what I recall, that he could have the cops down there now and have us taken to jail. - We told him that this is what everyone in town was told to do, and everyone in town had been doing it. He then asked us to get the mayor down there. - We got hold of the mayor and he was on his way, and we told the man in charge paraphrasing "the state are the ones w/ the equipment to handle this, not the town; his response was "raise taxes" - Long and short of it from there we ended up having to move a large pile of sea grass from the street back onto our property by 12 midnight or go to jail; after working for as long as we did and it being about 5 in the evening already this seemed impossible. Luckily our neighbor came down w/ a tractor and moved it for us in no time then proceeded to help cleanup in the yard for about a half an hour getting most of the rest of the yard taken care of, God bless! That was the hurricane that I saw and experienced, not what was in mind for vacation. Still the irony that there were state employees sitting around smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and video taping us working for a few hours while they are getting paid to do so. Then in the end we were the ones who were threatened to go to jail! .10, Jesse
