Hey Guys,

Do any of you read the MTG novels? If so, what do you recommend? Have they been good for a while since the Planeswalkers were introduced, etc.? I don't know anything about it but heard mixed reviews of the older stuff.

Avoid Time Spiral and Mirrodin. They were absolutely, incredibly awful. Ravnica is apparently okay. Dissention was merely sub-par instead of fetid garbage, like the other two.

Ravnica and Guildpact were fun.

Time Spiral and mirrodin were trash, as were all of Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. Invasion was alright.

Generally speaking the older they are the better they are. The Artifacts Cycle actually works as a decent fantasy novel series.

I've only read the first few, which I thought were passably okay. I did buy them just for the mail-away promos though

I have a couple of the earlier ones. I thought The Rath Cycle book was fine, but I did read it ten or fifteen years ago.

The Ice Age cycle was pretty good.

Some of teh absolute best were Odyssey, Torment, Judgment. Onslaught, Legions, Scourge. That set of six is literary gold! No dull moments you will love them!

They should've made more comics. I think mtg lends itself more to comics than long drawn-out overly-executive-meddled books.

Big set-piece battle between huge dudes in Dissension would have been a wee bit better if it was a comic rather than a novel, for instance.

Onslaught cycle sucked balls IMO. The whole Page/Akroma/Karona thing was total crap, the other players hardly cared anymore as it revolved around those boring persona. Odyssey was al right I suppose.

Artifact Cycle by far in first place. They should honestly make movies out of this LOTR style.
Legends cycle + Kamigawa (I loved this) were nice too, along with the separate novels (can't remember the names) that explain the origin of Baron Sengir for instance.
Ice Age was ok.

Mirrodin sucked, as did Time Spiral.

I disagree completely. I think Onslaught was amazing...Ixidor was one of teh coolest characters they had created in a long time and hasn't gotten enough recognition as a character and I think it's really a shame.

I also hated Kamigawa...Made me actually stop playing for years...the books and teh game lol

Oh well, to each its own .

I thought Ixidor was a very weak character that should have gotten his head bitten off by a random Mirari-adapted creature from Krosan Forest . The set however was great to play!

I loved the books from Kamigawa, but I have thing for the Oriental. Toshi was great IMO, and I loved to draft Champions. Betrayers and Saviors were crap though.

I have thought this exact thing since I read the books.
