The game or he will most likely no longer exist?

I just think this opened pseudo pandora's box. Getting beat by your opponent? Call in a quick background check for the DQ! Not really, but if somebody messed up prior in life you now have an easy out to have them out of your hobby.

However, I think slurpee's point is the one that matters. WoTC is definitely playing damage control. This is a PR move to me, and this guy is unfortunately their scapegoat. They wash themselves of any problems this guy might cause (although nobody has mentioned a record of him doing ANYTHING at a Magic event), and for a lot of people it makes them like Wizards a lot more for it.

Wizards can now pander to all of the anti-bullying group hug **** that goes on in this country. That's a lot of parents who have teenagers that play the game, and a lot of other people too. It's gotta be because it's so prevalent in society. It's just a good move on their part.

So Volcanon, I super agree with you that this SHOULDN'T happen, but it is the right move for Wizards.

Canadian lawyer. American laws are often pretty different. It's pretty obvious that Hasbro or whomever doesn't want anything to do with him based on potential bad optics. If whats-his-name the loudmouth had not brought up his history then there may have been no issue.

They made that clear already. I think taking his MTGO collection is questionable because there's no threat to anybody if they play "CardB33st10", an account used by somebody with a criminal conviction.

What happened and what is in that old newspaper article are not necessarily what actually happened. We'll never know, because he did a plea bargain. It's entirely possible he could have won in a trial. Or he could have lost. A lot of people plead out in criminal trials because they don't want to pay a lawyer a lot of money to maybe win or are afraid of going through a trial. Who knows?

Without bothering to read the article again it's against a journalist's ethics to not say "alleged" all the time on what happened, since when that article was written there would have been no judicial finding of fact.
