Well, I'd quit my job to start a master's program I've wanted to do for years at a great school. The week before the semester began they switched to all online, so I haven't gotten to meet any of my professors or other students. My program has 50 students but there are only 2 Americans so all the other students are in other time-zones so never on at the same time except class which happens right before they go to sleep and right when I wake up. Then my dad died a month into the semester which devastated me more than I could have imagined. Which has led to my grades falling like never before. My wife's job cut her salary by 5 figures because of changes from the pandemic but she still has like $240,000 out of $270,000 in student loans to pay off. And now 70,000,000 of my fellow Americans have decided that a president who emboldens people who want to kill me is a fine person and voted for him despite the fact that democrats nominated someone that many of them consider to be a republican himself but these 70,000,000 just couldn't be bothered to vote for decency so I've been dwelling on this the past few nights. Then of course weight gain this year. So, I've had better years ... or better 2 month periods.
On the bright side my 2 year old daughter is better than anything I could have dreamed of and that's the important thing. Since dad died, I've gotten back into picking up old toys he'd gotten me from my childhood but that my brother had destroyed. Been picking up g1 transformers, original TMNT, Kenner's the real ghostbuster's line, some Galoob Star Trek: The Next Generation toys. Trying to trade magic for that stuff.

Contrary to most people, the pandemic has been working out very well for me.It gave me an opportunity to work from home and spend quality time to bond with my newborn son. I also got a new place well under market value thanks to Covid’s negative impact to the real estate. Last month, I got promoted to senior management level and a 50% salary increase. Honestly, I couldn’t be any happier. __________________ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻"The enemy has been destroyed, sir. So have the forest, the city, your palace, your dog . . ." —Keldon soldier

Wow, nice! Pandemic hasn't done crap here, real estate just keeps soaring ever since the ending of the banking crisis. You wouldn't believe what property sometimes sells for. Few months back a regular in-between house, nothing special, went on the market for 320.000 but ended up for 385.000, and that's without rebuilding/re-doing anything (which they did, and was necessary). Pandemic is meh. working 2 days at the office with hardly anyone there, 2 days at home. I prefer the office funny enough. I need to get out of the house. quote: Originally posted by LandDestroyer: And now 70,000,000 of my fellow Americans have decided that a president who emboldens people who want to kill me is a fine person and voted for him despite the fact that democrats nominated someone that many of them consider to be a republican himself but these 70,000,000 just couldn't be bothered to vote for decency so I've been dwelling on this the past few nights.

Well 74,000,000 voters actually. It should probably say a lot about a president that the biggest voter turnout in US history just happened, and to elect a guy that nobody is particularly excited about. But that fact that the vast majority voted to get Trump out goes over the head of his supporters.. As do most facts. Facts aren't really their thing. They're more into the fear mongering, gerrymandering, and now, attempting to overthrow the country's democracy as a whole.

Phew that's a relief. But then I don't get your statement about those 70m Americans that should have voted for decency instead of Biden? I presumed with that you meant the other guy? Anyhow, the world sighs in relief now that Mr. Twitter got kicked. As a non-US person I don't get your political system (not that ours is any better). Someone who in total could get more votes could still not be president, because if you lose a state you also lose all those votes. How unfair is that? If you live in a Republican oriented state but vote for the democrats, you know upfront your vote doesn't mean squat.
And you always have old guys for presidents. At least Obama was a bit younger. Biden is lucky if he doesn't die of heart failure 2 years in his term. __________________ I'm a geek, you're a geek. 70 million people voted for Trump instead of decency is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. electoral college: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90RajY2nrgk&list=PLXkFeJHh99ZIu2E_UXJQJUyzorRHE9OKL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd5rul6EdF0 ya, i didn't want a candidate who was over 70 to win the primary but after Klobucar, Yang, and Mayor Pete dropped out that's what we were left with ... well and Tulsi but forget that republican in disguise. quote: Originally posted by paragondave: LD has been hacked.
I think you incorrectly remember how our disagreement went down. 4-5 years ago. I didn't support Trump, it's that I was considering voting 3rd party b/c I disliked Hillary. You came onto my personal facebook page and were very rude in the discussions. I did end up voting for HRC in 2016, but it was your rude way of communicating with me and my friends that got you blocked. I was anti Trump since before this video was put together but b/c of exactly this kind of stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTz7DlhlZiE and it's the video I've been sharing for over 4 years now.

Well that's a relief At least you guys get to vote. Our prime-minister is selected by the political party getting the most votes. And he's a lying d i c k. But hey, it's politicians, what can you expect? I enjoy Trumps' rantings over unfair elections while his own campaign was meddled with by the Russians. I remember a discussion a few years back started by a guy who claimed Trump didn't want to be president at all, but got surprised and since then did everything in his power to not become or stop being president altogether. Enjoyable theory, and not that all far-fetched perhaps. __________________ I'm a geek, you're a geek. Let's trade.Lord Flasheart: Enter the man who has no underwear. Ask me why. Housing market is still crazy here in Vancouver. I paid $800k~ for a townhome, which is roughly 100k less than the pre-covid market value. The housing market picked up again here in the last couple months, and the valuation is inching closer to 900k again.

I'm sorry, I got stuck by 'I paid $800k'. You do WHAT for a living? Need any help with that maybe? I'm fluent in English and Dutch and can fake mastering any skill really fast. On top of that I know a lot of really great jokes. But yeah, 100k shift within a year is nuts.

800K is nothing in Vancouver. A small 2200 sqft detached house is easily 1.5-2 mil each. Even my 1 bedroom condo in a suburban area sold for 420k. It’s just not a very affordable city to live in if you don’t have an existing property to “trade up”. __________________ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻"The enemy has been destroyed, sir. That's absolutely nuts - just outside of Cincinnati in suburbs got my 1800 sqft place for $80k 5 years ago - now worth $180k

For sub 200k, there’s literally nothing in Vancouver or nearby suburbs other than manufactured homes.

Isn't Vancouver one of the cities that had a big problem with people from outside the country buying up property they had no intention of living in and driving up prices?

Yep. very common in all major metropolis, and coastal vacation areas. Also has driven up the price of construction and materials massively.

We have special taxes for vacant homes, but that still doesn’t stop the market as the issue is more than just foreigners buying up properties. __________________ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻"The enemy has been destroyed, sir. So have the forest, the city, your palace, your dog . . ." —Keldon soldier
