$5500 dollar Helzburg Engagement ring; 1 Ct solitaire plus 1/2 ct in additional diamonds. Looking for high dollar Mtg singles, power/foil FoW ect. Will be at Gen Con and would prefer to meet there and complete the trade.

first. visit a pawn shop to calculate actual value of the ring you overpaid roughly 400% for and to verify authenticity of precious metal and gems.

second. apply newfound sense of reality to your expectations.

I appreciate the entirely misplaced advice, though if you knew anything about diamonds you would understand that: one, if Helzberg sold me a non-authentic diamond I would be fairly comfortable for the foreseeable future due to the monies I would receive from an out of court settlement, and second, the average market value for a one ct SI2 clarity K color diamond is $3,080.00. That is the worst quality stone a reputable jeweler will sell, and that is a non-set stone. I worked at a jewelry store for 3 1/2 years while at university, and would be offered approximatly 1200-1350 from a pawn shop, who would sell it for 2750-3250. I didn't say how much I wanted to get out of it, that would be between myself and whoever might be interested.

I am glad you appreciate my advice but I disagree with you on the misplacedness of it.

If you worked at a jewelry store for any amount of time, then you know I'm dead on on the retail jewelry markup. Market value and actual value are two entirely different things. You will not get new retail jewelry market value for your USED (yes, it is used) engagement ring anywhere, much less from a Magic the gathering trading website but I'm sure you already know that and understand the futility and ridiculousness of what you just typed.

I did work at a pawn shop for MANY years and managed the same one after paying MANY years of dues there and proving that I knew the ins and outs of the business, especially the USED jewelry business (and firearms). I bought and sold millions of dollars worth of USED jewelry over those many years.

I was not speculating that Helzbergs might sell a fake diamond to YOU. I was simply speaking to the wisdom of attempting to trade an engagement ring based on retail value, on a MTG trading website while being a noob to said trading site. If anything, I was questioning YOU.

I would love to hear the story of how you came to own an engagement ring that you now have no need of (I can only speculate) and wish to parlay it into magic cards. I am certain that story would entertain immensely. Probably as entertaining as the story of a Magic the Gathering player/collector who finds himself in need of an engagement ring that he would trade magic cards online with a stranger for, so he can present it to his lovely blushing fiance.

Go on, we are all on the edge of our seats.
