seriously, i do more discussing than i do on the trading parts of this site. im not going to lie, i LOVE motl, it got me so many cards over the years. but i love the discussions more. the only problem is there are little kids everywhere, and thus i know we need to be on our p's and q's. why not make a discussion board for older members. say 18+, invitation by a mod or something, i just think that the more risque stuff can be talked about by the older crowd, and motl has 30000 plus memebers, im sure crazyturk and them would love to take off the kid gloves. i know i would. just an idea.__________________ Join the M A R I N E S Go to exotic places, Explore distant cultures, Meet Exciting people, And kill them!

You do realize that most of the members that would enjoy such a forum (CrazyTurk included) are not 18+, right?Adding a secure forum and policing it just seems like more trouble than it's worth. There are plenty of other places on the web that such things are acceptable. On a site where most members are in high school, it just doesn't seem like it would be high on the list of priorities. __________________ Help Leshrac out, Donate to MOTL Stack 3!Help me turn straw into gold! If it would guarantee a more serious, less game/spam-cluttered environment, then I'm all for it. The problem of proving one's age is a tough one, however.__________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. EliotRIP Ari

I like the idea... I mean, I don't plan to ever need to explicitly talk about sex or curse every other word, but sometimes it just feels right to swear. And we've all seen topics that were on the risque side but starting down a more mature level of subject matter and warnings are made or posts are closed. As for proving age, think about other adult sites on the net. None of them require proof of age, they merely have a disclaimer. Not that that makes it ok... In any case, I don't think we should create such a forum because we'd still be policing what people talk about within it. If we didn't, there'd just be a lot of links to porn and whatnot. I know it sounds immature, but I gaurontee it would happen... there's always a group of bad seeds that spoil it for the rest of us. -Eron- __________________ "Optimus Prime, he's Jewish?!?" --Peter Griffin~Poopykins, Poopykins, Meow! This is a family site, there is no need for it. There are plenty of other ways you could go about talking about mature content other than here. MOTL is not something like Misetings or even MTGNews, its for the encouragement of good trading practices when trading Magic: The Gathering cards over the Internet. It shouldn't and won't happen, sorry to be a pooper of parties. __________________ Have no fear, we draw near."When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."

Yeah, I agree with Greven. This is a family site and if there is a little bit of extra stretching then people will take that as far or break what they can. I say we're great just the way we are. If the underlings get too curious there's a lot of smart tater tots that would try and sneak their way in. Not a good choice then.__________________ ☆GøÐÐ맧☆MДК∑ ЧΩÜя £ùΓЦRε ρéЯFЭζΓ ÄÐ√ÅÑÇÉ ª∏Þ ƒº¬¬Θω

With the implementation of the "no controversy" rule set to come into effect soon, I feel very strongly that MOTL needs something like this. The reason why I've hung around MOTL for so long is precisely because of the intelligent discussion of controversial topics. That's something that's unavailable in most online communities, and indeed, MOTL is the single best place for such discussion that I have yet found (if anyone knows of anywhere else, let me know). The point is that MOTL will be much worse off if we can't even discuss the finding of new fossils or animals for fear of causing controversy that might hurt someone's feelings. There is no longer even any room for the discussion of current events, or even of new Magic cards. That's ridiculous. MOTL needs an "adult swim" or an articles forum more than ever now. It's so sad that it has come to this. EDIT: Unless it was an April Fools' joke, in which case nderdog really got me.

while im sure i would enjoy it and use it, i do not agree with it(sorry guys ) like greven and val said, this is a family site, i look at motl as a great friendly place where EVERYONE(well besides rbms) is welcome. so why have a specific forum that certain members of our community are not allowed to use, just doesnt seem right. i just dont see it as fair that some can access a forum while others cant (its bad enough we have to guess at whats going on in the staff forum )

yeah... I think while swearing may be a useful way to get opinions across, it's generally a societal vice that it wouldn't hurt any of us to be rid of. Seriously, most discussions here don't need to have swearing. It's not like you just lost a rare binder or something that's actually worth swearing at.

i don't think that the reason for an adult forum is about swearing. yes, sometimes swearing help get a point across but you can always refrain from it.MOTL is great for discussions and with the implementation of the no controversy rule i feel the discussions will go downhill. we should be able to talk about science/religion, politics, and anybody who isn't responsible enough to handle it shouldn't be there. for anybody who attends religious services with their families.. many of the sermons are about controversial topics If this is a family site and families hear these sermons together, then how are controversial topics not allowed. I'm in a clan for Call of Duty.. given the majority of members are over 18 anyways and you need to register to view the forums (no proof of age required) nothing is censored and people are responsible enough. I know not all people here are responsible enough but then again that's why we have mods policing everything and plenty of you to take care of it all. I'm all for allowing controversial topics, otherwise we run into the issue with google/china.. we should be able to discuss any appropriate topic but with responsibility and reserve

That was an April Fools' joke. Don't worry, it got me too. I'm just glad it was a joke. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
