I think it would be nice to define an optional standard for lists. It would be nice if after entering a list, every person's list would be similar. This would make it easier to optimize/improve exisiting tools and create new search tools as well as make it easier to find what you need. Making it optional would allow those who are not interested to opt out.

If it's optional, a lot of people won't use it (just look at foil tags and autocard, that aren't used nearly as often as they should be). You won't be able to find a format that everyone will be happy with anyway, though. Just look at this thread to see how varied the opinions are.__________________ Mort was already aware that love made you feel hot and cold and cruel and weak, but he hadn't realized that it could make you stupid. All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. There are ways of making a skeleton standard that allows for flexibility when people need more. For example the basic standard for list sort order would be alphabetic. If someone else needs more than they could use the options to update their sort order. For example:[Sort] [/Sort] [Sort Opts=1,2,3] [/Sort] Now the Keyword Sort is standardized with options that may or may not be used. So everyone can be gaurenteed that if they use the standardized format that this sorting options will alwasy sort deterministically. I agree that you can't make everybody happy, its not going to happen ever. However, if you show people what can be done, I am sure they will jump on the bandwagon and agree to using the defined format. That is if they want there list to look a certain way. For example LaTex vs PDF.

While a decent idea in theory, it's just not practical. The sheer horsepower needed to completely rebuild a H/W list every time someone views it to match their personal preferences will bring the server to it's knees. I know I'm an extreme example, but just think how much work would have to happen to resort my list.__________________ Mort was already aware that love made you feel hot and cold and cruel and weak, but he hadn't realized that it could make you stupid. All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. I would be in favor of an Alphabetizing feature for the poster. An [abc][/abc] tag would be very helpful for those of us who like to make our lists alphabetical (whether we further separate that list into color/set/rarity/wathever would still be the poster's decision).Still not sure if even THAT would easy/worthwhile. But I do know I would like it. __________________ "Suddenly, she couldn't see the acorns for the trees." *Trade me your Might of Oaks and FOIL Urza's Legacy Might of Oaks, please! *Also looking for FOIL Relentless Rats!

I agree that it might take server processing power, I don't know how many MOTL runs or the details. Also I don't know the architecture so I couldn't even say if it was feasible in this case. I do however, know that it is possible. I do this sort of thing all of the time in my profession. Since there is really only one platform for the lists the benefits might not be wortwhile. If in the future, the need for other types of lists becomes a necessity, than I think this idea will shine.

This feature is already in place. It's called the alphabet song. __________________ Mort was already aware that love made you feel hot and cold and cruel and weak, but he hadn't realized that it could make you stupid. All your Gruul Nodorogs are belong to me. Well, then can we at least put a link up for those who didn't pass kindergarten? Seriously, it would take far less time typing up a list if that feature was in place, but I was merely commenting on me enjoying that feature but not the whole standardization of h/w lists thing. I suppose one could always copy/paste the list into MS Spreadsheet and have it done for them there and the copy/paste it back, which is a good solution other than the whole "link me to the abc's song" thing.

In theory it would be really really really nice to have it standardized to cut down on overlooking cards and to keep people from offering the wrong cards but I think it would be too much for someone or a group of people to come up with a good system that won't bork itself when people attempt to use it. Possible problems would be cards with alternate art, textless, multiple sets, different languages, misspelled cards, and people neglecting to use the foil tags.__________________ GøÐÐ맧 MOTL Queen 2006D≡P≡CH≡ MOD≡ 370HSSV-0773H Silver Jewelry
