How about not allowing people to post you on the BTA 2 times when the first time the case was closed? I was listed on the BTA and the person did not reply for over a month then they waited almost 6 months to post me on there again for the same trade. And I've sent messages to two moderators and have not received a response back at all.

IIRC, if it's the same case, it's not allowed--just as multiple complaints against a person should be made in just one thread. If someone starts a BTA thread about you, that person needs to follow up on his or her post (to which end post notification helps).

Now, the forum rules are vague on this point:

quote:
If you have been posted on the BTA, or if you are the poster, please pay attention to the case. If a moderator requests an update and does not receive one, the post may be closed.

The implication here is that once a case is closed, it's closed, and not to be taken up again. It's common sense that if someone let a case go, s/he's let it go and should not attempt to open it up again six months later. Unless, of course, there was a valid reason for the absence, and preferably (I myself would go so far as to say "necessarily") forewarning (i.e. s/he let people know that s/he would be away for a given period of time).

I think that this is all pretty self-evident, however, and you just need to make the mods involved aware of what's happened (which includes posting on the new thread with a relevant link to the closed case [which the other party has already done])--in other words, I don't really think that there's much of a suggestion here.

In your specific case, the guy has claimed that he was on vacation for a month--if he did not warn you/the mods before taking that vacation, that's his problem. Now, he's stated that he's not actually accusing you of ripping him, but just wants an update--which is fair enough, but why he couldn't email you is beyond me. Now, I'm not a mod and I don't have a great deal of experience in the BTA, but it seems to me that the huge time delay coupled with his negligence ultimately work in your favour.

Again, the best advice that I can give you is just to hang tight. The mods will get to it when they can.

EDIT: Caught a typo.

Not really, since "no response, case must have been resolved" isn't exactly a decision.

Cases with no updates are closed out of respect to the person being posted so they can resume trading rather than having to wait for someone who may have forgotten to post that things were resolved or may not have internet access or who knows what. There is no final verdict, no decisions made. If someone later returns, there's no reason to throw out the case just because it wasn't completed before.
