Topic: Autocensoring gay and retarded

We all know they have non-derogatory meanings, but the fact that they can get you smacked, in my mind, is good enough reason to autocensor them. Anyone trying to use the word "gay" appropriately would have little trouble using "happy" or "homosexual" in its stead. Hell, "slowed" is a shorter word than retarded! I admit that this is bowing to political correctness, in a way, but I think it's not a bad idea for this forum, where use of the two words can get you smacked.__________________

There are valid uses for them, so why should they be censored. Censoring words is not to protect people from getting karma-smacked, but rather to keep inappropriate things from being viewed. Censoring everything that could result in punishment could lead to bad things.

But the proper word for female anatomy is censored so why not this as well, as people are more likely to use the word retarded in a derogatory way then vag. __________________

Amen. BTW what's another name for a mule? Or for that matter a rooster chicken? Granted people are more like to use these terms in a derogatory way.

Well, another name for a mule is an ass.  Ass isn't censored. I don't see why people can't just police themselves in this particular instance.. Is it sooo hard NOT to use them that way? Thanks,

I agree, there's no need to censor these words if people just use judgment when they post. Don't make a mule of yourself and their won't be any problems.
