i was thinking it would ba kinda cool if you turned your inbox into a kinda persal homepage for each member. it still holds you PM's but it can also take you to any of your H/W, T/A, DECK LISTS and any other topic you have started. also it would be cool to be able to have a box were you can acsess you last 5-10 post you put up weather its one of your list or a trade offer, for a quick refrence and editing and deleting. the posabilities are endless with the amount of stuff on this site i just thought it would be easyer to get around and be able to keep track of you posts and funcution.

It would be nice, but it would also put a serious strain on the server.Maintaining the last x post history and all threads started by every user on the system would be a lot of overhead and of questionable value. If you need the information, it's easy enough to do a quick search by username and find what you want. It's not so easy to use the site when the server is bogged down by so much extra work to constantly manage all of that information for the thousands of posts made on this site every single day by hundreds of people. As it is, we occasionally get times when the server is too busy and we have to wait. Adding to that problem so significantly isn't such a good idea. __________________

thats very true i forgot about the server strain but thats why they're called sugggestions haha

well is the site ever gonna get a make over? so we can do more stuff on here besides posting, i know it costs money to get a new server and what not so what would it take? donations? I would donate if i knew it would go to making this site alot better! =D

I do too, I just think it needs a little more ummph, also you get to do cool stuff like post pictures and stuff and we cant, also it would be nice to be able to make your signature better, like posting pics and stuff in it, or have avatars or just cool things like that, it would attract more users....

if something like an avatar is going to get something to come to this site while not having one doesnt... I'm probably going to prefer they not come to this site any how. __________________

I block avatars and signature images on most forums that I frequent. I hope to never see them on MOTL.__________________

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this, maybe minus like previous posts. Something where you can access the main things like H/W list, T/A list, non-magic list, PM's, Ref List, Trade Matches, Profile, Signature.I also wouldn't mind a newer more polished skin. Nothing too extravagant, just something fresher and a little less bland. Maybe like a new metallic silver (or grey) to replace the old dull gray background. Site kinda has a Black & White Newspaper feel to me.

To be honest, I stopped trading on this site in 2001, and then came back just a few months ago. I found it very, VERY refreshing to see that barely a thing had changed. It made jumping back in a cinch. I was also quite gratified to see that I still had my old name, pass, and references. Not to be a brown nose, but I think this site is run very well, and I love the no frills, all business set up. It makes for fewer distractions from what I'm here to do, which is trade like a madman and learn about Magic.

What would the cost of a new server be.
We could raise money by donating cards and auctioning them off. Get some use out of the auction forum.
I would love something akin to what essential magic where you have a homepage that shows your:
10 most wanted(ones you want the most)
10 most sought after(ones other people want the most) that are on your list
with match links the ability to add my whole collection and look at its value in a spreadsheet or something. The price guide at MOTL is a very powerful tool that could be used in all kinds of cool ways that are not utilized atm a button for or post that puts prices automatically based on MOTL would be hotness.

I have also thought about many of the things you guys are talking about, for a long time actually. I would imagine that upgrading or changing Motl's forum script can, and might very well cause massive problems with the UI and possibly, their ref system. I might have to side with Tha Gunslinga on this one, I kinda like Motl the way it is. I actually have a website that has a SMF forum, and you can put avatars and all kinds of neat stuff in your profile, but there's a draw back. Just by me enabling avatars, it eats more of my monthly bandwidth. My monthly bandwidth transfer limit is like 30720000 MB so it's really not that big of a deal for me at this time. A note to the Mods: If Motl were ever to be interested in procuring another server for any reason, my friend and I would be happy to attempt to find a used one up for auction. With all of the businesses going under, we see a lot of them up for auction and they can be bought relatively cheaply. You do need a tax # to go to the auctions we go to though. __________________
