Topic: CASUAL DECK- Sorrow's Path is the kill.

Have you ever been killed by Sorrow's Path? My V5CB deck would have won the Johnny Award for best use of a card that has never been good-- if it forced you to play a land. Here was my deck: Sorrow's Path Political Trickery Rishadan Port Fog Bank (should have used Calcite Snapper) Dreadship ReefI want to turn this into a 60-card deck, where the only way to win is Sorrow's Path. This means no creatures (except maybe Spawnbroker), and no damage spells. I have a basic idea of how I would build it, but I'd like your input as well. Remember, this is intended to be fun. I'd like a Vintage and Legacy version, I think. These are some cards I'm considering: Crucible of Worlds Mind Over Matter Meloku, The Clouded Mirror Sorrow's Path Opposition Political Trickery Spawnbroker Rishadan Port Fastbond Zuran Orb Crop Rotation (so I don't have to run 4 Paths) 8 ways to swap 5-8 "copies" of Path. It seems like Meloku, Opposition, and Mind Over Matter work well together (especially with Fastbond and Crucible). I'm fine with this looking like lands.dec, or whatever. I don't have access to power, but I don't have Ports, either and that isn't stopping me. Discuss!

Bazaar Trader for cheaper, re-usable swapping, albeit with summoning sickness.Would you be opposed to Psychic Venom? Seems like it would be hilarious on Sorrow's Path, quite insulting.

seems like icy and ring of gix are much better and cheaper than risdan port. They can also lock down creatures to make you live longer.

I would still run 4 Paths...+ Vesuva. Especially because of Wasteland. Getting killed by more than one Sorrow's path > 1 Sorrow's Path4 Vesuva 4 Sorrow's Path 4 Rishadan Port 12 Mountain/Island/Forest Other good lands that stall the game 4 Donate 4 Political Trickery 4 Mind Games 2 Mind over Matter 2 Opposition 4 Bazaar Trader 4 Fog Bank/Wall of Denial/etc. 4 Spawnbroker 4 Cartographer 4 Mana Leech 4 Crucible of the Worlds 8 Icy Manipulator/Ring of Gix/Amber Prison 1 Sol Ring 1 Mishra's Helix So blue base. Can splash White for Wall of Denial/Wall of Omens/Scepter of Dominance, Green for Cartographer/Wall of Blossoms/Crop Rotation, Red for Bazaar Trader, Black for Mana Leech. So many different ways to go. White/Black give you removal, Red gives Bazaar Trader. Also, tapping it more than once per turn is fun. Fatestitcher Rimewind Taskmage (If snow) Unbender Tine Toils of Night and Day Candelabra of Tawnos Voltaic Key can Help Argothian Elder Deserted Temple Earthcraft Juniper Order Druid/Lay Druid Twiddle
If I had to make my choice, I would do something like a Green/Blue Lands (27) 4 Sorrow's Path 4 Vesuva 4 Rishadan Port 3 Deserted Temple 7 Island (Or better lands like Duals/Fetch's etc to help with mana base) 5 Forest 4 Crop Rotation/4 Expedition Map (may be better since you aren't sacing a land)/4 Sylvan Scrying (might be best one of all) 4 Fast Bond 4 Fog Bank/4 Lay Druid 4 Rimewind taskmage (snow)/4 Icy Manipulator 2 Mind Games 4 Political Trickery 4 Donate 3 Mind over Matter 1 Scapeshift/Earthcraft 1 Sol Ring 3 Crucible of the Worlds __________________ -Schmitty 7th in Refs [191] in OH-IO (Catching up to jmedina) 2nd in Posts [5763] in OH-IO (Have a long way to go to catch Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

Yeah, Vesuva was going to be my suggestion too. More Paths = more chance to make sure they wind up with a copy or two. Plus, if you go G/U like ryan2754 mentions then Vesuva can help with the Port and Temple to give you more untap/tap lands to work the Path with.This deck sounds like fun.

Oh, and I decided to stick to Vintage's BR list.1 Sol Ring 2 Zuran Orb 4 Crucible of Worlds 4 Preordain 1 Ponder 1 Brainstorm 1 Merchant Scroll 4 Political Trickery 4 Shifting Borders 4 Psychic Puppetry 2 Mind Over Matter 4 Crop Rotation 1 Fastbond 2 Meloku, the Clouded Mirror 4 Sorrow's Path 1 Glacial Chasm 4 Undiscovered Paradise 4 Rishadan Port 1 Deserted Temple 2 Boseiju, Who Shelters All 4 Breeding Pool 4 Misty Rainforest 1 Island I like the Arcane theme. You're probably right. The only thing is they're in a good deck right now, and aren't likely to come out of it. Also, the more I think about it, the less I like Crop Rotation. If I cut those, I don't need green mana until I find the Fastbond. Probably run Expedition map instead. BTW, what do you think of the chain reaction I put in there? Bounce a land with Meloku, pitch it to Mind Over Matter, replay it from the yard with Fastbond and Crucible, tap it for mana, sac it to Z Orb, re-replay it, tap it for mana to Meloku it. I can get infinite life and infinite mana, plus deal infinite damage with Sorrow's path. Lands: 4 Sorrow's Path 4 Rishadan Port 3 Deserted Temple 4 Vesuva 4 Undiscovered Paradise 1 Glacial Chasm 1 Boseiju, Who Shelters All 4 Breeding Pool

Seems good. Have you playtested it?Seems like you might have trouble vs. Aggro if you don't get a Port. Seems like fun. I'm still in the developmental stages with it. I know it's never going to be that good, but I won't play it unless it's not this bad. I took out Psychic Puppetry because I hated it, and subbed the Maps for the Rotations. Right now I'm at:3 Zuran Orb 4 Crucible of Worlds 1 Sol Ring 4 Expedition Map 1 Fastbond 4 Shifting Borders 4 Political Trickery 3 Meloku, the Clouded mirror 3 Mind Over Matter 1 Mystical Tutor 1 Ponder 1 Brainstorm 4 Serum Visions 4 Sorrow's Path 4 Vesuva 4 Rishadan Port 1 Glacial Chasm 1 Boseiju, Who Shelters All 3 Deserted Temple 4 Breeding Pool 2 Island 3 Blue Fetches Undiscovered Paradise doesn't work for me because it's too hard to draw Fastbond. I'd like to switch in Preordain and to get more card drawing in the deck. Not sure where to cut.
