Built this over the weekend, was looking for suggestions on what to add, as well as a sideboard.

Here's the deck:

Lands(23):
2 Tectonic Edge
10 Forest
11 Swamp

Creatures(26):
3 Birds of Paradise
4 Viridian Emissary
2 Perilous Myr
2 Glissa, the Traitor
2 Palladium Myr
2 Phyrexian Rager
1 Cadaver Imp
2 Solemn Simulacrum
2 Phyrexian Metamorph
1 Skinrender
1 Gravedigger
1 Phyrexian Obliterator
1 Clone Shell
2 Acidic Slime
2 Wurmcoil Engine
1 Sheoldred, the Whispering One

Spells(6):
4 Doom Blade
2 Cultivate

Artifacts(4):
4 Birthing Pod

So far I've tested against a few decks, mostly control.

UR infect:
This deck is a bit wacky, but it tries to go all out with a few infect guys, and back it up with counter magic. The good thing is, this deck can't actually damage me, so losing life to Pod and Metamorph is irrelevant. I think the biggest problem with this one is being able to deal with Inkmoth. My opponent will often stay under 4 lands to keep Tec Edge from hitting it, so I'll need another way to kill Nexus.

Tempered Steel:
Um, yeah bad things happened against this deck. IMO the deck is fairly frail because all you have to do is blow up the enchantment. I was not able to do that quick enough. Dispatch is a pain in the butt too, but without the Tempered this deck is pretty neutered. I lost to this thing like 7 times in a row though, so definitely a bad matchup right now.

UW control w/Venser + Gideon:
Had trouble with this one because of DoJ, and I think I'm going to definitely need something to get rid of walkers. Beast Within or Hex Parasite maybe? Possibly both.

UB control:
I played 2 guys with a UB control deck, and in both matches I straight up lost to Grave Titan. Without the titan I think I did fairly well. I have a ton of creatures, and they haven't got Day of Judgment. I like Doom Blade better than Go For the Throat, but I think I need GFTT just because of Grave Titan. Going to try 2 GFTT and 2 Doom Blade.

Vampires: So far the pod seems to be pretty darn good against aggro decks I've played. Vamps shuts off my Doom Blades, another reason to add at least 2 GFTT, but I didn't need them against the deck that I played. They don't have board sweepers, and I'm able to get more creatures down. Without having to worry about counterspells, I can use the Pod freely to get what I need.

Elves: This was a pretty good matchup for me as well. Again I was able to remove the biggest threats, and stall the ground. I'm not sure if I was just poison to this deck, or that Elves just isn't all that great of an option.

I have not gotten a chance to test against Red, which I'm kind of worried about. The deck loves to donate life during the game, and that's a bad idea vs. red.

My concept behind the deck is kind of trying to build "The Rock" with birthing pod to incrementally build card advantage.

I think I'd like to find a way to add at least 3 Beast Within to the deck, but I'm not sure what to cut.

I seem to have the most problem with blue and white planeswalkers, so I think I want my sideboard to consist mostly of things to stop those.

Thanks in advance,
BP

Hey man, got a couple things that will hopefully help you out.

1) Your mana dorks are extremely important early game. I'm running a total of 10 (4 BoP, 3 Llanowar Elves, and 3 Emissary's) in my WUG list and 8 (4 BoP, 4 Overgrown Battlement) in my RUG list. No matter if your using BPod or cant find one, you need to be able to get to the top end of your curve. This is especially true since your not running blue, aka access to stuff to dig (Ponder/Preordain) for that BPod. With that being said, I'd run at least 25 land.

EDIT - Didn't see the Cultivate's in there. I'd rather see more mana dorks instead of Cultivate. At worst they can help you start to chain into something else.

2) Obliterator doesn't really do much for you here other than just be a big Dismember target. Plus running two colors, how many times are you going to hard cast him? Rager is okay card draw, but I'd rather see Viridian Corrupter in that slot, especially in the current meta (TS, Swords, etc.). Doom Blade is just okay, I would rather find removal on a stick. I'd run 2, maybe 3 (probably 2), Gravediggers too. He works really well in BPod. Perilous Myr sounds good on paper, but I think there are better options in the slot. Not sure that I like the Palladium Myr. By running U/B your losing access to some of the better late game options. Sure you have the Engines and Sheoldred, but I'd recommend 1 more option. Ideally you would run White for Sun Titan/Elesh Norn, or Blue for Frost Titan/digging options to find BPod. Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger could possibly fill the role, seeing as he's a big body and helps control the board (although against Sword of Feast and Famine it won't be as effective. It will force them to basically take their turn in their second main phase which will still be helpful). Grave/Primeval (especially Primeval) Titan seems meh.

3) MOLTEN-TAIL MASTICORE is nuts in pretty much any BPod list. Sure it kind of works against your Gravedigger plan, but once you get your value out a creature a second time with the 'Digger it can just become Masticore fodder.

Just a few ideas to think about. Hope your having fun playing the deck. I know I am!

most lists opt to run 2 skinrenders at the 4 slot, and a full set of inquisition of kozilek over most other non-creature spells. also i'd run 2 skinrenders at the 4 slot, possibly an entomber exarch, and at least 1 viridian corrupter at the 3 spot. acidic slime is the best at 5 obviously. brutalizer exarch is sometimes a nice 6 since you can acidic slime a land (or a creature v tempered steel), and then brutalizer a land to keep them off grave titan for long enough to put out something meaner.

Thanks guys.

magic_man:

First of all, I gotta agree that the mana guys are real important in the early game. The Birds have been amazing in this deck so far. I was considering dropping Cultivate for Rampant Growth anyway since for whatever reason, I have trouble reaching 3 mana in some games quickly. One of the biggest reasons for this was I could get turn 3 Obliterator. Against control this is kind of irrelevant though. I am however able to cast the Obliterator fairly consistantly, and have hardcast it several times. You would think that it's kind of difficult in a 2 color deck, but after 2 Forests all I will ever need is swamps really. The Birds can tap for black as well of course. Cutting the Obliterator for another card is probably in order though.

The one thing I have to disagree about is Perilous Myr. I'm running just 2 main deck because I love it against aggro decks. It was really helpful against the elves and vampire decks I played. Not so much against control, but it does hit planeswalkers for 2. I would definitely like to side them out in that matchup. The Perilous seems to have helped me so far.

I will have to try Masti for sure. A lot of the creatures in the yard end up being irrelevant later on anyway, so this guy could be a really good addition.

dfitz:

I definitely want to change out my gravedigger for entomber exarch. Aside from the BB, it seems strictly better. The single biggest reason why I haven't tossed a Viridian Corrupter in this deck yet, is because I'm playing so many artifacts myself (including the pod). So if I have it in hand, and they have no artifacts, it's a bad time. That and it doesn't really attack. I planned on siding one in against a bunch of decks, but you might be right in that there's just so many targets that the trigger will never be irrelevant.

I'm going to build a sideboard, and make some changes. See how this thing turns out, and maybe try to improve those bad matchups!
