Hello, I played a small local tourney the other day and saw a deck that I thought was pretty cool. Basically it used the Four Horseman combo of Basalt Monolith + Mesmeric orb to cycle through his library. But the win condition was Laboratory Maniac. This is what I can remember, specifically I don't remember how he got the maniac into play. This is what I specifically remember 4 Basalt Monolith 4 Mesmeric Orb 4 Narcomoeba 4 Cabal Therapy 2 Emrakul, the aeons torn 1? Laboratory Maniac 1? Flash of insight 4? Lim Duls Vault Basically if I was going to recreate this I was thinking the following but I am looking for help 4x Unearth (to get maniac into play 4x Brainstorm / optional draw 4x Dark Ritual ?x Lotus Petal ?x Crystal Vein ?x City of Brass Meh thats about all I can figure. Would there be any validity in mixing in some way to pull off a shelldock isle combo? Just my brainstorm (no pub...)

Maybe Cephalid Breakfast would be better.Nomad's En-Kor/Shuko/Shaman En-Kor + Cephalid Illusionist. Same combo basically, but you have more options for one of the combo pieces plus you can Aether Vial your combo pieces out.

Hmmm yeah. I actually really like that. How valid is mono white? It could run stoneforge mystics with shuko (and probably a batterskull or something similar)

I played with something for a bit, here was the 'core':4 Nomads En-Kor 4 Cephalid Illusionist 3 Narcomoeba 1 Laboratory Maniac 1 Reveillark 1 Mulldrifter 4 Cabal Therapy 1 Dread Return 4 Gitaxian Probe 4 Worldly Tutor 4 Aether Vial From there I had two different versions, one used Duals/Fetch with Brainstorms and FoW's and the other used 5 color lands, more combo pieces, Careful Studys and more Discard.

Thanks for the list! I really like your revaillark + maniac win condition. I threw a proxy deck together that used it, and almost immediately noticed an issue when I could otherwise combo out turn two, but I had one of the 4 pieces of my combo in hand. How did you dance around this issue? I am thinking of some sort of discard outlet, but that seems janky.

Don't waste your time building this deck. The new IPG came out yesterday. You literally cannot play this deck anymore without getting nailed with Slow Play penalties.

Which one? The monolith deck, or breakfast... Breakfast wins fast I think

I used Careful Studies to get the combo pieces out of my hand usually.I think he must be talking about the Life version.

I'm talking about the Monolith deck.

Could you explain how you would get slow play penalties then? The combo doesn't take very long to play out at all so I'm confused as to why it would matter. Also at a small local game shop I'm sure it wouldn't matter anyway.

I think the issue is that the smart players won't let you simply explain the combo and then shortcut to the end. Because its a random event that your waiting for its possible that it wouldn't happen in a reasonable amount of time. Make him combo out step by step, then call the judge if it takes him to many tries. I could be missing another subtlety, so anyone else feel free...
