So I have been playing Dredge for about 6 months now... I've won a couple of small tournements (mostly by luck)... I admit though that I'm not 100% sure how to sidebord properly or what to put in my board... My local metagame is alot of RUG Delver, Maverick and the mirror match... My Current Board 4 Nature's Claim 1 Elesh Norn Grand Cenobite 1 Ichorid 3 Firestorm 4 Leyline of the Void 2 Memory's Journey I run a standard Dredge build with LED's... There isn't an Angel of Despair in the board because it is in the maindeck... Any Advice...? Also can someone explain to me why Flayer of the Hatebound is in some boards and what do you bring it in against...? Thanks... Aaron

I could help but I would need more of what your deck looks like.

+1 You should run Chain of Vapor in the board if I remember correctly.

Sorry guys for the lack of info... Here's the full list...4 City of Brass 4 Gemstone Mine 4 Cephalid Colliseum 1 Tarnished Citadel 4 LED 4 Bridge from Bellow 4 Narcomoeba 2 Dread Return 3 Ichorid 4 Golgari Grave Troll 4 Stinkweed Imp 3 Golgari Thug 4 Faithless Looting 3 Careful Study 4 Putrid Imp 3 Cabal Therapy 3 Breakthrough 1 Angel of Despair 1 Flame-kin Zealot I also have all the pieces for the Bloodghast version but find it less consistant... I actually just cut the Chain of Vapor's for the Memory's Journey as more and more people in my area are running surgical extraction...

Here is a pretty extensive thread on Dredge with a very knowledgable group of active participants. You will find that many of them run the "Quadlaser" LED list, which runs all full playsets (subbing maybe one or two cards) and no Dead Return or targets. They stress the consistency of this list, even though it isn't as explosive. The typical SB many advocate for this deck is: 4 Nature's Claim (big against Leyline of the Void) 4 Leyline of the Void 1 Ancient Grudge 3 Ashen Ghoul (to diversify threats against Surgical) 3 Rainbow lands (to come in with Ashen Ghoul)One successful poster plays a single copy of Memory's Journey main and advocates it for the SB as a way to fight other graveyard decks and protect yourself from hate, especially Extraction. It also lets you reuse Narcomoeba. Flayer of the Hatebound is used for a combo-esque finish; I think I usually see it in the main more than in the side. Firestorm comes in against Scavenging Ooze and I believe Merfolk. I've had the deck together for a while and have followed their discussion, but I rarely get to play Legacy aside from a little testing on MTGO with non-LED. From my little experience, I will never go below 4 Cabal Therapy. It is pretty much your only source of interaction, takes their hate if they are sandbagging it or takes their draw/search effects so they can't find it. Also, it's a sweet sacrifice outlet, though you are running Dread Return.

Scopes gave you solid advice. Read that thread. Flayer is for state based effects locking you out of the game... I.E. Enchantress, Peacekeeper, etc. Drop the DR targets main deck. You could play one DR for the token generation but the more you play dredge, the less you will want to see it. Hollywood's primer is legit, amazing, nuts, all of the above. Read it.
