Deck focus: Controlling combat, taking additional combat steps, making obscenely large tokens, giving myself extra combat tricks, equipment. Running this with an Angel/soldier theme. There are a few non-soldiers but they are obvious auto-includes like SFM. I have about ~136 cards in right now Been testing like that just to get a feel for synergies. After the deck i will also list everything else that has even been in or i wanted it to be in, so you get a general idea of what i've gone through. But if i took it out, it doesn't mean i won't reconsider. Nothing is random, i like every card for varies reasons, so just ask if it sounds out of place. Even though it's weak, i am for sure running the Spellbinder/Savage Beating combo, as well as Aggravated Assault/getting mana back from SoFaF Aurelia the Warleader

Build around what you like Red does have additional combat cards, but since your general has it built in...you might be able to skimp on those type of cards. Red/White decks normally feature lots of equipment. But not everyone likes to build around equipment.

Is this 1v1 French or multiplayer?Either way, since most of your key plays are combat phase related, I would recommend Grand Abolisher just to make things more difficult for your opponent to stop. __________________ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻"The enemy has been destroyed, sir. Multiplayer, no actual banlist but nobody plays questionably overpowered cards. quote: Originally posted by choco man: Hellkite Charger + Sword of Feast and Famine
Picked one up for this deck but it never went in for flavor reasons, being a dragon and all. Though I definitely will reconsider. At least pop in when i'm playing someone annoying Appreciate the timely remarks, but what should I be taking out?
Edits: + Grand Abolisher - good control + Raging River - Fumiko the Lowblood - Good effect but have other similar effects. Not a soldier, bushido is not that good of an effect. - High Ground - Nah - Grand Melee - though strong, just hurts me overall since i'm not playing very aggressive or defensive. Maybe i should be playing defensively? __________________ Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, and other vampire females oddities (crimp miscut misprint sign testprint alters etc)My Saleslist Wants

Balefire Liege? Also, why do you have Ancient Den & Great Furnace? Without Shrapnel Blast it looks like something that would fall prey to effects meant to destroy proper artifacts. Thematically I am not a fan of Grasslands / Flood Plain as they name land types not in your deck and come into play tapped. Same goes for Rupture Spire / Shimmering Grotto. Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse are better as they don't come into play tapped (small difference, I know, as they land they find does) and don't cite lands you cannot have. For similar reasons you cannot play Jungle Shrine (green mana symbol). It's interesting seeing the different tack you're taking than I am, though. My Aurelia build (in progress) has a strong life gain sub-theme to take advantage of Searing Meditation. My main theme is multicolour Red / White matters. As many of my creatures, spells and generated token as possible are multicolour to take advantage of Balefire Liege and Legion's Initiative. Rather than Spellbinder / Sunforger I have an Isochron Scepter and suite of 2 CMC or less instants. Should be fun, once I finish it. (yes, yes, please check my H/W list... ) Cheers; keywacat

Balefire felt ineffective because i barely play any red. Like ONE spell that even makes red creatures, and very few red spells at all. Den and Furnace are in because there is Puresteel Paladin. I also used to have Jor Kadeen and Indomitable Archangel. Being able to play frail artifact lands is a meta choice because no plays any removal for it (which is actually why i ended up passing on Flagstones). Probably should drop those. Mirage fetches are in over Expanse/Terrain because they get me Mistveil Plains. They don't make sense thematically and i hate it, but i also really want to cycle my spells for Sunforger pretty badly. Rupture/Grotto were in because i wanted more red sources but play so much white i didn't want more than a couple monored lands (so no mountains). But they are pretty weird. Forgot about the green mana symbol. I just read that as "add one white, red, or colorless", haha. Drop Den, Furnace, Grotto, Spire, Shrine Add Expanse/Wilds and 2 Mountains? And for your deck you should consider red effects that double damage for your lifelinkers __________________ Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, and other vampire females oddities (crimp miscut misprint sign testprint alters etc)My Saleslist Wants

Adding the basic mountains makes the Expanse and Wilds better, so yeah, might as well put them in. I'll post my Aurelia list here so you can see what tack I'm taking: Creatures (27) Balefire Liege Boros Battleshaper Blaze Commando Boros Guildmage Boros Swiftblade Cerodon Yearling Championne aurioke Duergar Hedge-Mage Figure of Destiny Firemane Avenger Flame-Kin Zealot Goblin Legionnaire Hearthfire Hobgoblin Inferno Titan Kor Firewalker Legion Loyalist Nobilis of War Restoration Angel Ronin Cliffrider Skyknight Legionnaire Soltari Guerrillas Soul Warden Soul’s Attendant Spitemare Stun Sniper Sunhome Guildmage Sun Titan Legendary Creatures (6) Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran Aurelia, the Warleader (Commander) Basandra, Battle Seraph Brion Stoutarm Gisela, Blade of Goldnight Razia, Boros Archangel (will get replaced if she proves too expensive to cast too often) Artifacts (6) Boros Signet Conjurer’s Closet (mainly for Hedge-Mage / lifegain from soul sisters or Auriok Champion) Isochron Scepter Sol Ring Sword of War & Peace (lifegain) Sword of Light & Shadow (lifegain) Trading Post Enchantments (5) Assemble the Legion (better for this deck than Mobilization) Land Tax Legion's Initiative Runed Halo Searing Meditation Planeswalkers (1) Ajani Vengeant Instants (13) Boros Charm (Isochron Scepter possibility) Condemn (Isochron Scepter possibility) Congregate Disenchant (Isochron Scepter possibility) Enlightened Tutor Incinerate (Isochron Scepter possibility) Intimidation Bolt Lightning Helix (Isochron Scepter possibility) Magma Jet (Isochron Scepter possibility) Order / Chaos Reflect Damage Seething Song Warleader's Helix Sorceries (3) Brightflame (this might come back to haunt me, depending on what my opponents are playing. most token armies in my league are white soldiers, after all.) Decree of Justice Waves of Aggression (red / white to trigger Balefire Liege and retraceable ) Basic Lands (24) 11 Mountains 13 Plains Lands (14) Arid Mesa Boros Garrison Clifftop Retreat Command Tower Emeria, the Sky Ruin Maze of Ith Rugged Prairie Sacred Foundry Slayer’s Stronghold Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion Temple of the False God Thawing Glaciers Wasteland Winding Canyons

Well, i wouldn't do one without the other. have you got suggestions for removing a few cards in my deck? You need Boros Reckoner over Spitemare, and Fencing Ace over Boros Swiftblade. I would probably also go with Harsh Justice over Reflect Damage. __________________ Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, and other vampire females oddities (crimp miscut misprint sign testprint alters etc)My Saleslist Wants

Boros Reckoner is a good idea, though still a bit expensive right now. As for Fencing Ace and Harsh Justice (which I didn't know about, thanks for the heads up) they're both mono-white, so won't trigger both Balefire abilities or with Fencing Ace gain all the bonuses my multi-coloured creatures would. To be honest I'd probably run Holy Day over Harsh Justice, as I'm still taking the damage from whatever attack I'm equalizing. quote: Originally posted by Sovarius: have you got suggestions for removing a few cards in my deck?
I do, and I'll explain my reasoning for each suggestion. I usually dread this bit because everyone has pet cards that works really well for them, or they just like on a visceral level and suggesting to cut those triggers an emotional response. (cut Veteran Bodyguard from my Sigarda deck?! No effen' way! ) CREATURES: Stoneforge Mystic / Stonehewer Giant (choose one or the other if you need to make a cut) General Jarkheld (does this guy ever really work as well as you think he will?) Benalish Commander (if you need to make a cut this guy looks to be both overkill and slow) TOKEN EFFECTS: Militia's Pride (comes down early but terribly situational) Luminarch Ascension (your early turns should be getting out soldiers, not losing them because your opponents have a good reason to attack you) LORD EFFECTS: Coat of Arms (in some situations this could help your opponents more than it helps you. still, it is on-theme if you've a 7th edition copy) COMBAT CONTROL AND COMBAT TRICKS: Reconnaissance (aren't you going all in? ) Fight or Flight (whenever you give your opponent a choice they will always choose the one bad for you) Fight to the Death (seems too situational. just play Rout) Aggravated Assault / Savage Beating (choose one or the other if you need to make a cut) EQUIPMENT: Sword of Vengeance (the other swords / Jitte are enough) LANDS: Grasslands (cites an off-colour land type) Flood Plain (cites an off-colour land type) Vivid Meadow (but no Vivid Crag? switch it out for Battlefield Forge or Rugged Prairie) Ancient Den (prone to loss as collateral damage) Great Furnace (prone to loss as collateral damage) Ghitu Encampment (doesn't make a soldier) Boros Guildgate (superfluous / comes into play tapped) Scabland (superfluous / comes into play tapped) Jungle Shrine (green mana symbol) Shimmering Grotto (superfluous / comes into play tapped) Rupture Spire (superfluous / comes into play tapped) Darksteel Citadel (why?) MANA ACCEL STUFF: Everflowing Chalice (superfluous with all the other mana rocks) Gift of Estates (Tithe and Land Tax already cover this) Endless Horizons (in my league this will get taken out pretty quickly as a fantastic target of opportunity) I didn't count out the cards remaining, though my rule of thumb is 38 lands and 62 non-lands. This takes into account that all of my decks have Wasteland and Maze of Ith (my league allows liberal use of proxies). edit: essentially you need to decide on your real major theme. Is it soldier tokens, Angels, combat tricks, what? Once you have your focus you can decide how much to dilute it with sub-themes.
