Out of boredom and a desire to play some of these cards, I put a tribal snake deck together. I was surprised how many decent creatures are of the type snake, so that made this a little more interesting. Naturally, I'm trying to make this as competitive as possible, while still living within the reality that I'm building tribal snakes; this isn't going to be good. If it can steal a game or 2 here and there, I'll be thrilled.Lands - 21 2x Breeding Pool 3x Cavern of Souls 4x Misty Rainforest 3x Verdant Catacombs 1x Windswept Heath 4x Mutavault 3x Forest 1x Island Creatures - 28 4x Wasteland Viper 4x Sakura-Tribe Elder 4x Lotus Cobra 4x Coiling Oracle 4x Adaptive Automaton 3x Ohran Viper 3x Lorescale Coatl 2x Seshiro the Anointed Other Spells - 11 4x AEther Vial 3x Sosuke's Summons 4x Collected Company Thoughts? Really hoping they print a snake lord at cmc 3 or less to replace the Automatons, but they work still.

Heh Snapcaster mage often gets put into play as an abush viper. Could add that in to recur some CoCo :-P

Sakura Tribe Scouts would be a good add to the deck to help get you that turn 2 3 drop that you might need if you are holding extra land in your hand. Also, Garruk Wildspeaker could be a good add as it untaps 2 land and then the later overrun effect that you need to get through with snakes and tokens. Vials are nice since you can use it to surprise block with a Wasteland Viper.

There was a stretch where I was running 24 lands to make sure I could always trigger Cobra, and I ran the Scouts in that build. It was awesome fast: T1 Scout; T2, Cobra, Fetchland from Scout, Summons; T3, Seshiro, pound with Cobra and tokens, Scout in another fetch, replay Summons. It was cool, but more often than not I would just flood-out. When I cut down to 21 lands (more on that in a minute), I pulled the Scouts in favor of the Wasteland Vipers because A) not enough land to support it, but mainly B) needed some form of creature removal, and Vialing out a Viper is a nice trap. When I realized the deck needed CoCo, I figured I needed at least 28 creatures, so I trimmed land and other spells (actually had Garruk in here for a bit, but he lost out to CoCo). I'm on the fence though about the Tribe-Elders, so I may try turning a few of those into Scouts and see how that works.

I think I would go with mutagenic growth over tribe elder. It's a creature pump spell that you can play when completely tapped out.

I didn't forget Mystic Snake; he's actually one of my favorite cards. Board's not listed, but there's 3 sitting in there. I went back and forth between him and Lorescale, but I just was getting better value out of CoCo with the Lorescales. The deck needs to be very aggressive to compete, such that I can't sit back on a counterspell. That said, a well timed board wipe on my opps part can be devastating, so maybe I should give it another chance.
