So for years I've been sitting on an Urza's Saga Tournament Pack that's still factory sealed. It seems the value has gone down quite a bit since a few years.Do you think it will have a good trade value momentum? Or should I just open it up and pray for a cradle?

Saga was my favorite set. I remember opening my first Tournament Pack of it and getting Serra Avatar, Vebulid, and Morphling...pretty pumped. I have always wanted to buy a Booster Box (Sealed, of course) of Saga, but have never scrounged up the money to do it, and maybe crack it one day like 10 years from now. Dunno if I would open it, but it sure would be fun. __________________ -Schmitty 5th in Refs [185] in OH-IO (Catching up to xion_black) 2nd in Posts [5145] in OH-IO (Have a long way to go to catch Val) Mafia/Werewolf Record: 2-1 as Mafia 6-5 as Cit

Saga was a Great set, it's not all about the Cradle:Argothian Enchantress Exploration Goblin Lackey Morphling Serra Avatar Serra's Santum Show and Tell Smokestack Sneak Attack Tolarian Academy Yawgmoth's Will Those are just off the top of my head, it would be interesting to see what's in that 1 starter...

Of most benefit to me, I'd like to see Gaea's Cradle, Tolarian Academy, and Serra Avatar. There's quite a few power cards for trading I could end up with too. The value of the pack goes for about 31.99$ give or take at top dollar. Most of the rares you can think of run 10+ in the set. So I'm just looking for more feedback to what I should do.

Don't open old packs, only disappointment awaits. Me and my buddies did a Tempest booster draft this Christmas, 15 packs and we got.. like... a living death and 2 lotus petals. Don't open it expecting the contents to be worth more than the thing sealed. Just smell it from time to time, that's enough.

unless you're opening them in decent quantities you're not looking at very good odds of making more money by opening it

Last year my buddies and I did a sealed tourney with some Saga stuff just for the hell of it. 6 Saga tournament packs and a couple Legacy and Destiny packs. There was some fun stuff in it, and I remembered why Urza's block was the best. If you played back then, I'd open it and enjoy it, even if there isn't any money in it.

There is a heck load of junk in Urza's Saga, I would not advocate opening it unless you are rich, in which case open and enjoy it

Do not open it. That set was huge and has a massive number of useless rares.

You'll either open it and find your self with some junk rares or you'll trade it off to someone who will open it and pull an Academy, a Lackey, a Cradle, and a Yawgmoth's Will. Hate to say it, but that's just how the game works when it comes to opening packs.

You can still pull money commons and uncommons from Urza's Saga too.

At least Urza's Saga has colored symbols, unlike Stronhold, and let us know what Foils you get........

... for informational purposes, and because I couldn't tell if you were joking, foils didn't start being put into packs until Urza's Legacy. Sorry if I killed your joke.__________________ *MafiaBass*Joshweek*Letter Bombs!*Prices*Gatherer*Logout False Untruths Can Kil

You did. Both of them. As for the Saga starter... I think of it like this: As long as it's sealed, it could theoretically contain anything...(like all the most valuable cards)...and it's sealed nature gives you that smiling feeling inside... If you love it (having a sealed Saga starter) and can dig it just hanging out and being part of your collection, then that's what I would suggest, just leave it sealed and behold its potential! -or you could open it and be disgusted that you held on to it for all those years because it was just a steaming turd waiting to be whiffed! (the Mirage starter I recently finally opened had no Dreadnaught, and the contents truly sucked!... but they helped me get some MINT cards for my set...) Besides, you can probably go buy some of the best cards from that set OUTRIGHT, for around the same cost as the value of your sealed starter.

Karn, Gamble, Time Spiral, Stroke of Genius(I guess), Glorius Anthem(I guess)...I personally just like the commons. Duress and Dark Ritual are nice to see. The DR pic is by far my favorite, too. I still would not open it, like it's been said there is a hell of a lot of junk in Saga. It would be better if you were doing some sort of sealed thing with a group of friends. Just opening it will probably lead to a huge disappointment.

Well the verdict came down to opening it.It was purchased for next to nothing a few years ago, so I was bent on getting something more than the value spent on it. Serra Avatar Exploration Bulwark 2x Priest of Titania 1x Dark Ritual Were the highlights of the package. Naturally my friends drooled with envy pulling out the Serra. All in all, it was a gain.

You got at least $30 from the tournament pack by the looks of it.

Good for you but realize you were VERY lucky to get that, and you still only broke even on what you you might have got if you just outright sold the pack.

US Serra Avatar NM 11.72 US Exploration NM 18.01 US Bulwark NM 0.39 US Priest of Titania 4.74 US Dark Ritual NM 0.55 Total $35.41 Thats the totals from apathy house. The last 3 tournament packs that sold on ebay were all under 20 bucks. So he did really well. Luck happened to be on his side.

You got x2 of a common from a starter? That's unusual, even for saga.

No. I meant that there was also a Priest of Gix. Don't know where my head was when I put 2x.

Funny story, I was given one of these years ago (2000/1/2/3ish). I Specifically asked for one for my birthday (along with a tempest 60 card set) for a chance to get one card, the Serra Avatar.Sure enough, I opened it...and would you believe it? It was there! I got up, ran around, cheered some more, and had a happy fit...I wonder how I'll act if I ever win the lottery........... annnnyway, the other rares that came with it were Gamble and Tolarian Academy. My tempest Tournament pack came with Jinxed Idol, Intuition, and I really have no idea what the third rare was...if there even was one...been looking through my cards for a little bit now. It also came with a Wasteland. Sorry to bump this old thread...I'd come across it though a random google search looking to see if tournament packs are still sold (I haven't played magic in a good 7 years) as I was at a card shop today and did not see any (DO THEY?). I'd figure that I would give my 2 cents and say that you never know what you may get.
And now I read that you opened it...You got an avatar too! niccceee

To answer your question: They're still sold, yes, but not manufactured anymore. The newest tourney pack you can get is Shards of Alara, but you'll have to search for any of them nowadays.
