Since there has been a trend of what happens threads here on MOTL I thought this would be fitting.I went to the post office today and had 2 packages of cards to ship to Canada. I was told that they could no longer ship to Canada. So that leads me to this question, what happens to Canada?

They riot and burn Vancouver because Tim Thomas doesn't need Jace to win.

Strike won't last much longer. The gov't is planning on enforcing some new bylaw or whatever, to get the postal service moving again.

They've introduced back-to-work legislation, which is a tad more serious and heavy-handed. The opposition will delay its implementation for as long as possible, however, so expect at least another week.

Well, the back-to-work legislation isn't even arbitrated. It's a diktat that's an even worse offer than Canada Post made.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about making them go back to work, but I think the conditions are pretty ridiculous. If they are going to send them back, they should just send them back to work at their current contract and require them to go to arbitrarion if they don't reach an agreement after some amount of time. Any pay increases would then be retoractive to when they restarted working.

Oh, I'm not supportive of the move. BTW legislation is a rather blunt instrument, and the situations does not seem to warrant it yet. It's also telling that they'll be tabling BTW leg. for the Air Canada strike too, which is even more heavy-handed on their part since Air Canada has done a pretty good job of working around the strike so far. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. 20 years ago they would have legislated them back within a day or 2, but not the mail doesn't matter as much which is why they've gave them this long. __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 10000+ posts 3rd in posts in Ontario 15th in posts on MOTL Top 5 in Refs in Ontario (by people who location posted)

If the Post Office strike started after their hockey team choked it would have been hilarious. I know Americans whine when things don't go their way, but way to make us look good Canada.

This long? It's been a week for the lockout. A lot of business still uses the post. My company has many boxes of documents waiting to get shipped now.

Letter delivery is down, but parcel delivery is up (both through Purolator--which belongs to Canada Post--and regular mail). I don't know about bill delivery, but my suspicion is that it's only slightly down. One problem, as Volcanon mentioned, is that the legislation forces the workers to accept a smaller pay increase (and overall package) than the one Canada Post was offering (which, it should be noted, was soundly rejected by the union). It's definitely not a pretty situation, and the legislation probably means that we'll be seeing another strike in the near future. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. if this legislation pasess, which it will since the conservatives have a majority government, it sets a dangerous presadent for all govt. related union contracts in the country....why should companies bargain when the government will just force them back to work under conditions favouring the company anyways its bull****

Legislation to send Canada Post employees back to work has just passed in the Canadian House of Commons. It will now go to Parliament's upper house (the Senate) for ratification on Sunday; it is expected to pass there without any problems the same day. Postal operations should resume by Tuesday.

Uh, 3rd reading anybody? In other news: If you don't want labour rights to go the way of the dodo, stop voting conservative or "choosing not to vote". Whereas I respect supporting any political party, not voting deserves a shotgun blast to the face.

amen brotha they should round up harper and bush jr and shoot them both better yet, let the plebs stone them for their insolence NDP will try and stall them out as long as they can.....though in canada, since senate is appointed by the prime minister, once it clears the house of commons, no real chance to stop them anyways

OTTAWA - Mail could be moving again by Tuesday following speedy Senate approval of government legislation ordering locked-out Canada Post workers back to their jobs.During a rare Sunday sitting, senators vigorously debated — but ultimately approved — a bill that sets the stage for resumption of mail service. The legislation received royal assent just hours later. As the bill made its way through the Senate, members of the upper chamber heard testimony from federal ministers, Canada Post executives and union members. Letter sorting should resume Monday in preparation for delivery the next day, Canada Post chief operating officer Jacques Cote told the senators.

Its nice to have the mail up and running again. I just received a workshop, ali from cairo, and some smaller cards, all of which would have arrived nearly two weeks ago if there was no interruption in mail. __________________ |My Angels~My P9 l""|"\__, |~~My #1 Angel~~l'_|'_|_|) |(@)(@)""***|(@)(@)**|(@)
