About 5 years ago I made one out of two cards, two round pieces of cardboard, tape, and the shafts from cotton swabs. I've used it hundreds of times:(Don's life counter) I know...beautiful isn't it? She served me well but its time for her to retire. I'm curious to know what you guys use and I'm more curious to know what you guys think is the most beautiful life counter out there. For any of you artistic types who designed your own please feel free to promote your work. Don't be discouraged just because mine is so much sexier.

In the past, we use memory or just pen/paperIn 2009, we use the 20-sided FTV dice because I opened quite a few FTV boxes. Now, we use an Iphone App. When you press the screen, the number can go up/down. Much more convenient than the 20-sided dice where you have to keep looking for the correct number.

I use an abacus most of the time. I prefer my black one, but sometimes the blue one gets used. The red one is still broken because I dropped it and it cracked the first day I used it. Pro tip: Don't take a metal abacus through airport security. Poor lady didn't even know what an abacus was.If I'm playing a PTQ, states, GP, etc then I use pen and paper and make sure to note the reason the life change happened. This actually won me a game once (or rather caused me not to lose). Me and my opponent both had thought we won the match, but didn't figure that out until we were trying to find out who goes first for the next game (I thought I ended the game at 3, he said there was a lightning bolt that I forgot about and didn't record). Judge was leaning in my favor due to better notes so the other guy just caved and said I can have the win.

If it's serious, pen and paper of course. Otherwise, I like using 5 different colored poker chips, valued 1, 2, 4, 8, & 16. It's fun to sometimes confuse opponents as they try to figure out what I'm at.

I like rolldown dice, but I also have a double life counter for EDH. In competitive, always pen and paper.

Eh, that's annoying. I know a few people who use unsleeved cards. Three cards turned horizontally worth 5 points each, five cards turned vertically worth 1 point each. Its fine for FNMs or casual stuff but its so easy to "forget" to take one or turn one the wrong way. The same with dice. If the table gets bumped and it rolls off the number what do you do? Pen/Pencil and Paper, keeping track of both life totals seems just fine.

I thought it was against the rules to use a program during games? __________________ Member Since 03/28/2001 10000+ posts 3rd in posts in Ontario 15th in posts on MOTL Top 5 in Refs in Ontario (by people who location posted)

Almost always paper and pen. It's pretty much the best way to keep track of things. I always worry about knocking dice around and messing up my life total.__________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Garoyle. Send them my way.

I've got a box full of different colored glass 'counters' that our casual MtG group used to use for tokens back before there were actual token cards. I usually use red tokens for 5 and white tokens for 1. I always let my opponent know what they represent before the first match in every game I play so there's no confusion.

Pen and paper. It's especially handy when the life totals you and your opponent are keeping don't match, since you can work backwards based on the trail the numbers leave behind.I haven't really seen any life counters cool enough to qualify as 'most beautiful', save perhaps yours. Well, yours is cool enough, but it also didn't get hit with a beauty stick. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S.
