Hello all. I am looking for a couple of peeps to help me translate some cards into Japanese that were never printed in Japanese previously (think out of print, expensive cards). I need accurate translations ASAP.

Can the MOTL world help me out here? If you are a skilled Japanese linguist please contact me ASAP. Thank you all for your time.

There's already translations of all of the old cards on Japanese sites. Which one do you want?

I am sure that things get "lost in translation" and I know that its probably not always 100% accurate, but if you both know how to play google translate probably will work.

http://translate.google.com/#en|ja|

Edit:
Heres a trial run - I chose time spiral... not the most complicated card, but not the simplest either. I went from english to japanese then took the output and reversed the translation -

English input:
"Exile Time Spiral. Each player shuffles his or her graveyard and hand into his or her library, then draws seven cards. You untap up to six lands."

Japanese translation:
"亡命時のらせん。各プレイヤーは自分のライブラ 2522;ーに自分の墓地と手をシャッフルし、その後カー ; ;ドを7枚引く。 6つの土地までアンタップする。"

Japanese input (same as above):
"亡命時のらせん。各プレイヤーは自分のライブラ 2522;ーに自分の墓地と手をシャッフルし、その後カー ; ;ドを7枚引く。 6つの土地までアンタップする。"

English output:
Time Spiral exile. Each player shuffles his or her graveyard and hand into her library, then draw seven cards. Six lands to untap.

That isn't a bad translation, and as long as I said, as long as Japanese is the primary language, and they understand the rules of magic, this should be fine.

Edit 2:
Just for giggles I decided to trans and retrans a few times and ended up with a consistant translation ending in:
"Six undeveloped land." as the last clause from the text.

If you're translating cards, remember to use the Oracle text instead of the text printed on the card.

http://www.crystalkeep.com/magic/rules/oracle.php

That's where you'll find the modern wording of all old Magic cards.

Nice resource.
I checked out their magic forums though, and they seriously need to work on the spam control...

Making proxies or alterations, I presume?

If you can't speak Japanese then it would be hard to use these sites. I can copy paste if you have a short list.

There's several sites with translations. I like http://mtgwiki.com/wiki/

Those translations are pretty awful. I dont know if a Japanese person would understand it.

Thanks Volc. I will check out mtgwiki. I am looking for these to start (they are mainly for alters, but maybe a few proxies as well):
Mana Crypt
Bazaar of Baghdad
Time Vault
Demonic Tutor
Mishra's Workshop
Black Lotus
Mox Emerald
Mox Jet
Mox Pearl
Mox Ruby
Mox Sapphire
Helm of Obedience
In the Eye of Chaos

If the translations are the same as at the top of each mtgwiki page (what appears to be the oracle text, in the blue box at top) then I should be good to go. If you could just check those on the wiki to make sure that they are totally legit it would be appreciated, and I will go forward with my project.

I don't really know if I could tell that much between minor revisions of wording. I do know the guy who translates for WOTC so I'll ask him. It looks fine to me, although looking at mana crypt for some reason they didn't put "mana crypt" into katakana. Should be マナ・クリプト or something.

Edit: Yeah, he confirmed they are worded as if they would be printed today.

demonic tutor should be really easy, just find a japanese diabolic tutor and copy the text.

same with the moxes, like for mox emerald find a jap llanowar elves, copy text and for the other moxes substitute the appropriate color symbol

Lmk if you need help digging through mtgwiki. As I noted, stuff like a self-reference on Mana Crypt is for some reason not translated.

Though in most cases it would just be the katakana, which if you have a little bit of Japanese ability you can probably do just as well as me.
