I've also started "upgrading" some FNM promos (Ringleader, Warchief) to pack foils which just about doubles the individual card's value.

I think the average consistent legacy/vintage player around here has a ~$3-4k collection. More for the pimp or fully-powered player. There are even a few standard guys with pages upon pages of Lilianas, Snapcasters, Sorins, Foil fetchlands, etc, so $5k isn't out of the question for them, either.

However, taking all players into account, I'd have to say somewhere around $300 for average and $150 for median. Could be wrong.

On the topic of value I would say most peoples are 300-500. I mean check ebay, there are very few real collections (nonstores) that are above 1k listed every so often. Sure there are the big money ones but how realistic are they?

I don't consider the selling of a small handful cards or a deck to be a collection.

To me there is probably only 1 auction a month on ebay that is over 10k and it is actually worth the asking price.

i mentally added up mine and got about $50k, but that's all trade stock since I don't really play anymore. if we count new players then somewhere in the hundreds is correct, but with people who play multiple formats, i'd be surprised if it was under 2k

The people at FNM probably have collections ranging from $200-$1000. Then there are loads of casual players with collections worth even less. These are probably the majority of magic players.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Since I could not acquire all of the cards in foreign foil, I decided to keep them all in English. The deck is obviously not done being foiled out, but is very nearly finished. Sorry I don't also have a foreign cards fetish :P

I'm not a fan of foreign cards either.

I have an all-foil Angel deck that is linked in my sig that I'm pretty proud of.

I also have a casual/vintage Tezzeret/Stax kinda deck that I was thinking of pimping out but I never get to play it so I probably won't. I have an oath of druids deck that's got some good stuff in it too. Unfortunately, nobody plays vintage.

It is unfortunate that certain words dont translate well to russian. if that had just a little less text, it would be very nice imo.

But back on topic, i am going to agree with simbayu. i would not expect the average casual/fnm player to have collections over $500, and there are a fair few ptq/gp grinders that dont even have 'collections', they have a deck for an event/season and then they sell it.

I've known a LOT of people who may have SPENT hundreds of dollars on their collections, but at this particular juncture, they're only worth maybe $20 or so!

I'm just saying that in order to have a true average, you've gotta count all the people with "collections" that are total newbies or that just have no idea what a real collection is all about.

Like people who started and then just stopped and their cards ended up in the closet or what-not
