Who's hyping Tibalt?

I've got it coming out of the sideboard (a single copy, don't need any more) with my Doomsday package and so far it's been an all-star. Does every top-tier deck want to run it? Of course not...but that doesn't mean it won't be prone to abuse.
Doesn't that prove the point though? It's extremely hyped because "ZOMG Time Walks for everyone!!!1!11!" but it really only fits into niche decks like Doomsday and might spawn a new deck idea or two. On the other hand, I actually like Vexing Devil. I know the usual, giving your opponent choices is bad, and you should feel bad, but still...giving them a choice between two slightly equally bad positions for them isn't terrible if you can manage to manipulate the board regularly.

Fair enough. The way I was looking at it was less "this card belongs in every deck" and more "when this card does find a deck it could warp the format" and a lot of my enthusiasm for it is as a result of it enabling a turn 2 win with my current deck. (Technically I suppose it's my turn 4 since I'm time walking them twice, but that's neither here nor there).

I'd say that Time Warp was mega-hyped. I'm sure this has already been said... not sure though...It'd be interesting to see the list of cards that were mega-hyped, but actually reached their potential. I also think it's interesting to see cards like Goyf and FoW that become mega expensive after being cheap for their initial existence.

This is a boring list. Everything that is old and worth money wasn't worth much at one point.

This list is boring cause everyone is pointing out cards that were amazing during their 1st run, which means they were NOT over hyped. Just turned into a , omfg this card is terrible now, or I don't like this card thread. Both of which are pointless, second of which is 100% opinion. __________________ I shall have the souls of all who defy me. "Lord Crovax"

At one point it was $25, which I thought was nutty. I have found some pre-orders now for $15, which is much more reasonable.

Sideboard cards seem to always get overhyped to some degree, especially Pithing Needle when it first came out. Card was supposed to ruin Vintage until everyone realized it was just another sideboard card with a $15 price tag. __________________ Most References in Massachusetts 80th All-timeSupport my friend's store: http://www.tabletoparena.com

Managed to keep it to, till the reprinted it like 4-5 times...now unless it's original foil, it's all less then 10, and most cases less then 5.

It was a rare in a 3rd set. And quite possibly the worst 3rd set of all time.

totally agree with Crovax.Shadowmage, Call of the herd, cursed scrolls, rishadan ports were all played and very good if not the best cards to play at that time and powerlevel of the game. the only ones that i agree with so far about cards that seemed better than they really turned out to be: -Sarkan Vol -Time Reversal now these cards coming out in Avacyn? you cant even put on the list as we have not had time to show us if they are good or not every set shakes up the meta

Over-hyped card: serra avatar (I dont' think it was ever played in a tournament deck during saga, was worth way more than the $10 card it is today, but hey, I still play with it) A very good example of something that is over-hyped, the movie Avengers.

Really? Why would you say that? Isn't it not out yet and currently has 50/52 positive critic ratings on rotten tomatoes?I'm going to have a blast next week at the midnight 3d IMAX showing :P

Clusterbomb won Worlds which was a combo that used Serra Avatar (both by Pattern of Rebirth and to feed Cluster/Altar for enough mana to Whetstone someone).

I came here pretty much to specifically mention Balduvian Horde.Speaking of overhyping, there was an article put out at the time it was printed somehow explaining how it was rarer than a Black Lotus based on print run and rare distribution. Can't seem to find it, but it was probably printed in The Duelist, Scrye, or an early issue of Inquest Gamer.

I could believe that, it's not as if Garfield had any idea this game would become this or he should worry about it being super rare to print, etc.
