Topic: wizards policy on fakes? confiscation?

I've got to ask an obvious question. How come a lot of people on this board, can tell if a card is fake or not (from a scan) or if it is fake, but this person, who works for wizards, in real life, would say it would take longer than 3 weeks to verify? Are they shipping it to the U.S. or PSA/BGS? I mean, I have enough examples in my possession to compare one against if the card passes a bunch of the standard tests (bend/light/water) and can make that decision in less than 15 minutes. I doubt BGS/PSA take longer than this to verify authenticity (because they only charge 10-15 per card). Wizards international policy sucks if this is the case. Wish the original OP the best and looking for a positive outcome.

The story is bizarre but I am inclined to believe you. However, you seem very reluctant to get to the bottom of this. Calling that guy was step one, sure. But I would raise hell by now. I would not only demand more evidence that a WOTC-employee can do this, but I would be all over EVERY WOTC-employee I could find (hi MaRo!). Also, and this is the best part: GET THIS STORY OUT THERE. If this gains momentum (and here is where evidence is valuable to remove doubt in people) and people really understand that going to events now adds the risk of your cards being stolen by WOTC themselves, whenever they please, that could have a huge effect. WOTC might feel it in their wallet....you know, the place it really hurts.

im just not much of a hell raising guy.the reason it would take this long, apparently, is that the card is in a safe, with the organizer of GP Manchester, and wont be shipped to wizards in belgium, untill after GP Malmö (apparently same guy is organizing both events) If you have a good idea exactly whom to contact, that might help. I dont really like talking on the phone w. people, im that kind of guy.....

If you want to actually get it back this century fake or not, you may have to raise some hell, or else it will get put on the backburner till someone feels like taking care of it.

What I find strange is if they were so sure that the card was a fake, they just should've ripped the card in half on the spot. If fake, there wouldn't have been any blue ink in the middle of the paper. If legit, you just made an instant sale of a ripped Mox to a Wizards employee for the price of a whole one. That way everybody would be sure that there are no shenanigans afoot.

Sooo.I was at GP Malmö. And my name gets called. I figure i got a gameloss for messing up deck registration or something. But noo, its some random guy, giving me back my mox! cant remember his name, he apparently is the guy who is organizing the evens (wizards apparently arent doing the practical stuff themselves). He basically gave me the card, said it wasnt fake. apologized for my inconvinence and gave me some promofoils. (value 40$) ... The End. (?)

I'm glad to hear you got your card back. Not sure $40 in promo foils was worth all the hassle, stress they caused you. Did they tell you how they authenticated and why it took so long? Think some sort of published policy needs to stated if this is gonna happen. But glad the outcome was a positive one....Greg

Crazy. Bottom line, someone is getting told to s my d if they try and take some power from me, Wizards employee or not. They need to at least put a policy out there saying that they are or aren't going to be doing this in the future. And what is the point? 30 days to figure it out? Do it on the spot and give the card back.

He's suggesting that they would have the information of the person from whom they took the card, your friend, and not you. They would have tried to find -him- to return to him the card they took from him. So the implication he's making is that he thought the gig was up, didn't think he could get away with ripping you off and so brought the card to the organizers and said "This belongs to X, but I can't find him, can you call him up?"

Pretty sure its not a fake. pretty sure it same mox.the guy who gave it to me IS the organizer. I do not doubt that it was in his posession all this time. No idea why some of you think, whatever your thinking in regards to my friend.

Because if anybody, no matter HOW official looking, tried to take away a piece of Power 9 that WAS NOT MINE, there is no way in hell I would let them take that card out of my hands without the actual owner present, consenting, and with actual documentation.

This. What happened to you would probably never ever happen in North America.

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind taking some decent pics or scans of it and posting links, so we can see if it looks fake or anything?

After a day of thinking about this, I wish wizards would start up their own authentication process if they were going to do this. Give them 5 bucks, they certify the card is real and they give you $40 in promos (which probably cost them .50 to make.). Anyway we can get them to buy into this suggestion? Lol. Regards....Greg
