Stu has only succeeded in life. Profiting hundreds of thousands of dollars off MTG sales while the rest of us fail at life, and Magic. Don't forget it.Currently speculating pack rats and Gatecrash isn't printing enough to turn things around.... more...rats... please?! More graveyard somethings..please!? : /

Not sure why but for me, everytime I have a stockpile, prices will not increase. After I thin off my stockpile, prices will go up. Had like 80 gurus in the past and they barely moved. After I downsized to 40+ or so, they started going up seriously.......... It's same story for my duals, zen fetches, shock lands, apac land, euro land......everything I get rid of half, prices take off!

Steamflogger Boss like many other players (I still have like 150 reg ones and 50 foiled ones on MTGO lol) :PBUT! I bought all the Eldrazi Monuments at 0.50$/1.00$ each in all the LGS around me when it came out and people thought it sucked (got about 30ish of them for 20$) then sold them 10-12$ each later on.

Damping Matrix was my only fail...got about 50-60 during the first modern ptq season and I'm still stuck with them...I have had a few moderate success including: Proclamation of Rebirth, Through the Breach, Runechanter's Pike.

Wow. Some of you are pretty serious about speculating. Those are some rather large numbers of cards you're all throwing out. I almost never buy more than a playset. Guess I'm too cautious to be a proper speculator.__________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. With top you can even cast it on other people's turn - how cool is that.
it must be the MTD effect.....i bought like 90+ snapcaster last year. sold like 16 for small profits, 8 for small loss and probably still have 60-70 left. anything i have lots of, rarely increase in price. one more story i bought like 70 stoneforge figuring that there should be nice equipments in 1-2 years time. basically i was losing. stoneforge fi ally increase after over a year. it was not until i sold 50 at very small profits that stoneforge finally shoot up. i sold 16 at $10, 4 more at $15 before watching it going up to $20+……………

I also have a few hundred death's shadows, but I do not consider that a fail yet.

I sort of won on Tarmogoyf, when FS came out I was picking these up for $1-$2 and as throw ins added to deals I had around 60 or so and a few foils. I could hardly believe it when I was able to get $25 cash each for a standard rare during TSB block constructed. So thats a win right? If you don't count that I should have made 3x that if I had held out for a few more months.

these things held steady forever. I sold a set of gurus for $200 in 2000 to inca, and friend bought a set for ~$250 from a dealer about 2 years ago. I would have never touched these to speculate on, they're just basic lands after all. Guess I just got lucky that I like Terese Nielsen's art, huh?

I bought a set ~ 2 years ago for 150.00 off Ebay. There was a guy selling sets on Ebay for years and when he finally sold out, the price started going up.

I also bet on a Ooze, thought for sure someone would break Necrotic Ooze and it would shoot in price. Never happened!

I have over 200+ Black Cats!!! So kiss my ass!!!! MuwhahahahahahahaahStill looking for a Korean Foil. :/ Biggest fail? I had an idiot friend convince me to buy 300+ copies of Pryomancer Ascension. Net profit? Maybe made $10 when all was said and done. Took years to rid myself of them, think at one point I bulked off a good bit of them....it was a giant waste of time, luckily I got my money back. Who knows... maybe one day this will be a great investment! I wasn't going to wait until "that day" came around.
Biggest win? Buying about 20 KOTR for $3-4 each and about 100 of them off MTGO for 1-2 tix each.

My fails a bit different, I got some RtR packs when it first came out, quite a few actually, and pulled 3 deathrites, one of them foil, moved them all for 30 worth of cards while they skyrocketed after I moved em, seems a common theme that price rockets when people dump their speculation piles

When I first started playing with the release of revised I sold a playset of Taiga's to my buddy for $20. We went to a magic tournament and I remember saying " who would ever spend a $100 on one magic card"? I wish I could go back in time and buy up all of the black lotus I saw. Traded an underground sea for a ghost ship because I liked the art. I never buy more than a couple of play sets, because I don't trust my judgement. But all in all, magic has been very good to me.

Biggest fail :- Selling all my cards after I quit the game in 1996 ... tought it would be dead by the time I would be interrested back by the game ......... sold for almost nothing (maybe 100/150$)... I remember Juzam Djinn was in there and I cannot remember about dual lands as they were not even quoted at the time ... so you immagine what was in there ... hundreds/thousands of dollars worth... Biggest success : - Buying promo foil Gaea's Cradle at 100 not even a week before it went +200

My worst: Buying 4 Snapcaster JP foil for 640$ a set Now after 5 months they are. 600$ Ah lets not forget, getting rid of a jp foil Jace for 650$, 2,5 months ago Thats pure awesomness. Best: Acquiring 50 blue zen fetch foil at 50-60$ Picking up 6 Jace foil for 250-300$ a month ago

On a higher level, my most solid bet: converting my $40k cash stockpile injan 2011 into a $76k debt + trading liabilities by jul 2012. all that difference of 116k went into funding for mtg stuff. lost money on a bit of stuff but i will say the majority went up in value.biggest losing trade: deleveraging from that 76k of liability to 19k liability from jul 2012 to jan 2013.......especially at a time when zen fetches and jace tms are exploding. i sold 20 jace tms, 3 foil jace, dozens of foil fetches, 20 daak confidants, 16 goyfs and at least 300-400 zen fetches in this period.......all these stuff went up in prices!

My biggest success was buying up 20+ Judge Cradles from Cardkingdom @ $25 each.My biggest fail was reselling them back to another vendor @ $25 each because I needed the cash. SIGH
