Just like it says, how many booster packs, boxes, cases do YOU buy? I have just started playing/collecting again after an extended hiatus, but just in the last month I have purchased/procured around 2 boxes worth. And if I lived any closer to a shop I would have bought at least a case worth by now. Regale me with your tales!!

On average. at least 3 boxes and 2 fatpack boxes of each set and then another box or 2 of loose packs either buying them at my local game store or sealed events. I always buy a case usually online with a friend to get slightly cheaper preorder boxes and free shipping.

I've bought one booster since 1998 and zero since Torment.

I stopped buying packs after getting ripped by Stronghold packs not having rares.

I buy boxes to draft, it's about the only smart usage of a box.

On a more serious note I havent' bought a pack since I bought a case of Worldwake pulled my 3 Jaces and a playset of the set. I'm not sure I could do better then that value wise so I haven't bothered to buy any.

1-2 boxes per set. Fill in holes by buying singles or trading or drafting.

About 3 boxes per set, the rest via draft each week and the usual trading / buying, etc.

When I started buying boxes I bought 1 per set. But I bought about 2 boxes of Return to Ravnica and 2 boxes of Gatecrash.I tried an experiment with M13 and just bought a playset of commons and uncommons off ebay. It worked out amazingly well. I think what I will be doing going forward is this: Buy a playset of C/UC off ebay and 1 box. I have a lot of fun drafting with friends or I'd probably just buy the playsets off ebay and then pick up rares as I wanted to use them.

Never. I play the weekly tourney's at my game shop and do my prizes as store credit towards singles. Opening a pack is like pulling the lever on a slot machine, statistically your just wasting money. Every 2.5 packs of RTR is the same price as an RTR shockland, and gatecrash is a terrible set IMO (am I the only one who feels like Gatecrash was a bad set btw? Compared to RTR which has stuff being used in every format, Gatecrash just didn't have anything... good. :/).

Again I'm new at this, but how do you know what cards you need/want in your deck if you don't try them. Obviously I understand there is junk, but for instance; I would never have thought to use wild beast master in my bloodrush deck had I not pulled one and stumbled on its truly awesome bloodrush/life gain combo ability. Do you just read up on all the cards? I guess I'm a trial and error kind of guy. And new. And money isn't exactly tight. (Not bragging I work hard in the North Dakota oil fields) Thanks for the responses guys! And sorry for bad punctuation and what not, I'm doing this from my iPad in the work truck.

Cockatrice, watching deck tech videos, watching SCG streams, watching CFB MTGO videos. I understand the notion of just putting a deck together out of the cards you own (I used to do exactly that when I first started), but nowadays it saves me time and frustration by looking at the meta and using a testing program to fine tune a list before I actually go out and acquire the cards. EDIT - I usually buy a box per set and use it as trade fodder while the prices are up. Beyond that, I only use packs for drafting, and sometimes I burn store credit when the gambler in me needs feeding. In fact, took the last 3 packs of ISD off the shelf of my LGS last night with store credit, and pulled a Geist of St Traft along with creepy doll and splinterfright .

For the most part, yes. I find that to be a much more effective use of my time and money, since I only need a few specific cards when a new set comes out and it's easier to just buy them straight up. The only time I ever buy packs is to draft with. The last time I bought a pack just to open one was probably somewhere around the first visit to Mirrodin. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Videos, I should have thought of that. Considering what it did for my Starcraft game I'm surprised I didn't. Anyway, I supposed as I get used to the mechanics, the ins and outs if you will, I'll better be able to understand how a card will play. Even after only a month I can look at a card online and tell if it has potential or not. Analyzing mana curves importance of mana drops in particular decks and so on. But every little bit helps. Now if only I can find someone to play with......

I used to buy 3-4 boxes per set. Now that there aren't as many PTQs and PTs I feel much less driven to keep up with the newer formats. I haven't played Standard in almost two years, really. I think I would follow it more again if it seemed like the support was there.I can make a reasonable FNM deck for $20 if I should decide I want to do that one day. __________________ Always buying misprints. 0-4 boxes purely for drafting depending on how excited my play group is to draft a new set. These boxes are purchased from a friend who is a judge (gets them as compensation) for $80 apiece. We understand even at that discounted rate, aside from the first few weeks we are losing money by opening packs. But since we are drafting we chalk it up to entertainment value. This in my opinion unless youre a large volume seller who can unload cards fast in the first 2 weeks, is the only reason you should buy sealed product.

I buy 0 boosters, and generally buy singles if I need.I don't really play a lot anymore, though, which might be another reason. (Haven't bought boosters since WWK, when trying to open Abyssal Persecutors/Jaces)

At least 1-2 boxes when a set first comes out just to get inventory. After that, depends on how cheap I can get product.__________________ My 2008 Nationals MOTL's Pro-Tour Winner 2007-2009 Tower Magic FacebookhilikuS: Also, as much as MAB's list has become the list on the T/A Forum, I do miss Slinga's.

Most I've bought was two cases of Mirrodin, but that was between five or six people. Most I bought for myself was a case of Zendikar, and didn't open a treasure :/ that wasn't why I bought it, but it was still poopy. Anymore I'm lucky if I can get two boxes. But when I do get boxes, I can bulk off the hot foils I pull in my trade auctions, and keep everything else. It kinda sucks because I like having a ton of commons and uncommons, but I just can't buy like I used to. __________________ *My LJ*Letter Bombs!*FB*Logout- MM is a copycat! (So am I)*CKGB
