After this story and that article from SCG yesterday, I think that it would be wise to de-pimp my cube. I just did a rough estimate of its monetary value if I were to lose the thing and it made me kinda scared now to let anyone know I even have the thing. I haven't let anyone new to touch my cube in years and at the rate which magic cards are increasing in price and how I am constantly upgrading the cards in it, the only person I can play cube with soon would be just myself

A fair concern, but you could also A) build friendships where you could put your trust and/or B) play it with people who have a similar high value cube/collection But I agree, the best security is that no-one (or only a select few people) know what you have... and only a narrower subset of those know what you have AND where you live. As another poster mentioned, the risk of theft can not be eliminated (if a thief is determined enough). But it can be mitigated... thieves generally evaluate risk/difficulty vs. payoff, so increasing the former raises the bar on the latter.
