A fine member of the upstate ny community got his collection stolen out of their car. Some thieves broke into his car and took only his specific things and left the other peoples stuff.

This doesn't help in the current situation, but members with high value collections should consider insuring their collections.

I asked my insurance company if my homeowner's insurance covers collectibles and they told me it only covered 2K worth. They referred me to collectinsure.com.

While I can't personally vouch for the company (I haven't had to file a claim), they are rated A+ on the BBB.

The premium was lower than I expected... a little over .5% per year to protect against theft, fire, water damage, and some other things (I think they even insure cards when you ship them with some carriers).

I'd never go so far as to say that he got what he deserved, because that's both false and asinine.

My rule is this: if I can't keep them with me at all times, I don't bring them. I didn't even bring my virtually worthless trade binder to GP Pittsburgh. There are a multitude of things you can do to offset the danger of being robbed from your car. Even if you do everything you possibly could, your stuff could still get stolen. By now, everyone should know that's the risk you take, and if you're willing to accept that risk (I'm not), then do what you will. I hope he gets his cards back.
