That's the actual eternal staple plant. Obviously has more applications in legacy, but I'm interested to see what it end up doing to modern, since you can play it alongside confidant.

Chromanticore has to be one of the best silly names Wizards has come up with in a long time.

Phenax is not good. Better than the GW god, but that's not really saying much.

What bothers me is that over a third of the new set has been released, and I still don't much of an uptick in removal options.__________________ "Message to women worldwide: Girls....we're stupid. Eh. He's a plant for Dimir-housed EDH decks. ... Which is exactly why I want copy. __________________ The Best Thing About EDH: "It’s like poker night, but nerdier." -David Schreiner

Not if you are playing Black, because you get Drown in Sorrow and Bile Blight.

Yea, what about white? And red has 2 as well, but I don't love the CC on Fated Conflagration. Triple red in the CC just seems crippling. __________________ "Message to women worldwide: Girls....we're stupid. We don't like games. We don't know games. We can't read minds. I understand the "mill" strategy is usually frown upon, but I found Phenax to be pretty neat. If I play standard, I would probably make a control deck with it.__________________ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻"The enemy has been destroyed, sir. I think it might be fine with all the decent mill and control. The new infest does wonders because you have a viable sweeper for the aggro decks that doesn't put you in a 3rd color.

I thought he was pretty cool also, but I'm an almost exclusively casual player as well. I've seen some fun magical christmasland posts about turn 5 wins using him. __________________ Wisconsin - smells like dairy air!I collect Granite Gargoyles. Send them my way.

Plea for Guidance 5W Rare, SorcerySearch your library for up to two enchantment cards, reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then shuffle your library. Hmm. Don't want to open this.

I'm seeing a ton of stuff I don't want to open. Born of the Gods is looking like a huge letdown after such a great opening in Theros. __________________ "Message to women worldwide: Girls....we're stupid. We don't like games. We don't know games. Courser of Kruphix 1gg Enchantment Creature - Centaur Rare Play with the top card of your library revealed. You may play the top card of your library if it's a land card. Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you gain 1 life.
Does that mean i can play more than one land if i use it with Courser's ability?

No. It just allows you to play from the top of your deck if it is a land. It doesn't change the 1-land per turn rule. __________________ "Message to women worldwide: Girls....we're stupid. The 5 best cards I'd want to open are....(I'm looking to win, not make money. This set doesn't have that much value to me IMO) 1.Champion of Stray Souls
^^ card is the best sealed bomb in both sets combined. Unkillable, and makes it so you can just trade all your guys 1-1 and cash in your small dudes for your big dudes again. God help your opponent if you get some sort of Gray Merchant chain going, or any other CITP ability. Card is UNREAL. I feel like even someone that has little grasp of the game of MTG can probably pilot this card to victory. It's almost Pack Rat limited stupid.....possibly better, because it just doesn't go away. It's also just fine by itself....yea there are combo potential with it, it recurs other guys...but it's just an unkillable 4/4 at worst. That's not a downside if you ask me. 2. Fated Retribution Instant speed wrath's are always good. 3.Perplexing Chimera I might even rank this one #2 over the wrath. A splashable 3/3 flying Desertion? WTF! Nice card. 4.Xenagos, God of Revels I put this card down here because it's not going to be an easy splash. It's also 2 colors, which all the other rares are single. It's the most powerful of the new gods.....but it requires you to have another creature in play to get the full potential. It's still game-breaking, I just would rather NOT commit to G/R or 2 colors in general bc of one card. I'd easily overlook any of the gods if the color pools were weak. 5.Phenax, God of Deception Mill might be bad in constructed...but it's pretty bonkers in limited. That said...once again this card NEEDS other cards to win. It's not as powerful as say Heliod, Thassa, or Erebos were in Theros sealed. It doesn't do things by itself...but can end a game pretty quickly. That said, it probably wont win you a game from far behind, and might not one shot you like Xenagos might. All the gods are fine.....but I still think the top 3 cards to open are the ones I listed 1-3. All are unbelievably powerful and all are single color.

My list would be a bit different. From what I've seen so far, it would be 1. Fated Retribution 2. Oracle of Bones 3. Bile Blight 4. Searing Blood 5. Perplexing Chimera Not necessarily in that order, but I'm not totally sold on Perplexing Chimera. It looks pretty solid, but I feel like 5 CMC is a bit high and is not necessarily an immediate game-changer. It is, however, much better than most of the rest. I still think Kiora, the Crashing Wave might make #5 the more I think about it.

Actually, I think pre-release and draft-wise, it's a great addition to Theros. On a single card by card basis however, there is not much besides the 3/1 for me so far. Made me thinking of rebuilding W/B Fish.

Aww....they changed the Chimera? I swear it had flying the last time I looked. I guess that makes it's both better and worse. Better - Now they don't have a 3/3 flyer you might not be able to block if you trade it. Worse - You don't have a 3/3 flyer to put pressure on them. Card is still Desertion on the slow, and as always, the threat is greater than the activation.

After first dismissing him I'm thinking Xenagos, God of Revels can be quite handy in an Animar EDH deck.__________________ The Best Thing About EDH: "It’s like poker night, but nerdier." -David Schreiner

I'm a Legacy player. Am I the only one who is extremely disappointed with the cards leaked so far? I counted perhaps two Legacy playable cards, the rest seems like overcosted crap... .

There's not much that Legacy playable, it's true. On the other hand, for the last few years the contributions to Legacy have tended to be on the "holy poop that's really powerful" side. I like getting good cards, but I'm not a big fan of getting too many too quickly. __________________ "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think they will sing to me." -T.S. Considering how many cards and sets have been printed over the years, getting 2 out of a new set for legacy isn't bad really, the threshold to get played in that format is pretty high.
