2 weeks ago I tried to quit smoking cold turkey... found I had to eat like nonstop all day to keep myself sane, gained weight, got very tired. Tried to use the gum to help, but it gave me a very unpleasant feeling in my throat as if all the liquid has been drained from my body. So, I'm back to smoking, although I have made myself a "smoking schedule" to adhere to, basically trying to slowly stretch out the time before I need more nicotine.Stopped drinking pop altogether and started tracking how much water I drink, I usually drink quite a bit of water but I make sure I drink at least 2.5L a day now. Don't take the bus anymore now unless it's so cold I'll probably get sick, saving myself $4 a day and adding a few more KM's into the daily routine. Would be nice to find some sort of good booze that has less suger in it though, so I'm still pretty dependant on Rum and Beer on the weekends where I intake a lot of suger.

Well ladies and gents, it's almost December, and that means we get to try something new. I hope everyone did well with November's task, and please remember that it doesn't end now that it's december. Each task adds to the previous one. I hope that you find it easier to drink healthy The task for December is 2 fold, both simple, but maybe a bit more difficult than the first: 1 - You hopefully made a list of healthier places to eat out, and unhealthy ones. For December, the goal is to not eat from any place on your unhealthy list. That generally means no fast food, etc dunkin donuts, or anything like that. 2 - There is no such thing as seconds. People should, and do, eat because they are hungry. People generally go back for seconds because the food tastes good, or they are bored. Our goal is to limit ourselves to one portion. Once you're done your first serving, then the meal is over. If you have any questions or concerns at all about this, please don't hesitate to post. Optional Homework for December: Pretend that a rich individual has decided to pay you $10,000 if you can come up with a healthy, convenient, and organized daily snack plan for them. What would your snack plan be? (feel free to post your plan here closer to January)

my biggest problem is portion control on crackers or chips. I can easily go through a whole little foil container of goldfish in one sitting. And suggestions?

what he said is the best decision. People snack, it's really hard to stop. What is easier is not buying that kind of food. Stock your place with healthier snacks. If that is not an option, try pre- portioning. Get a box of ziplock bags, and pre portion the goldfish out. If you sit down with the entire original bag, it is just a matter of reaching into the bag and grabbing some more.

If you have trouble snacking, don't bring out the box. Place the snack (crackers or what have you) on a plate then put the original container away. That way you're only eating what's on the plate, and when it's done, it's done. The problem is most people snack when they're doing something else. Eating while distracted is bad, because you don't consciously know how much you're eating. Try to deliberately eat, and not do so while watching TV or movies, or while on the computer.-Matt

I agree with Malice. Just don't buy it.Stuff for snacks I have are peanuts, yogurt and fruit. If I have anything chocolate in the apt. it will just go in 2 days.

Get healthy snacks. In our house see keep fruit, vegetable, yogurt and protein bars. The hardest thing for me and my girlfriend was getting the junk out but after a couple weeks of not snacking on junk you lose the urge to eat it.

What's the verdict on those "Protein" and health bars, they all have extreme advertising and seem to have hundreds of ingrediants in them that aren't real food. Doesn't seem too healthy to me... kinda more like a chemical bar.

I have never been a fan of "protein bars". You're right about 90+% of the ingredients list sounding like chemicals though. If you find that you are lacking protein in your regular meals, try having some fish, or lean steaks, or something along those lines. Last night I had chicken fajitas. They were made with baked chicken breast meat, fajita spices, green, red, and yellow peppers, onion, a little skim milk shredded cheese, and salsa... so good, and lots of protein. Also, if you have the opportunity to steam your vegetables, i would recommend it as you lose less of the healthy stuff in them in doing so.Other than that, how is everyone doing? We are closing on 1.5 months of altering what you drink, and half a month of cutting out crappy fast food and extra portions. Has anyone noticed any positive differences? For me, I have lost a little weight, but the biggest difference has been energy levels. I find that I am no longer tired when I wake up, and I don't spend all day yawning.

So far I've found that I am sleeping far less than I used to and not feeling as tired as I was when I used to get up in the morning. Everything's working out great so far.
