1. What one piece of advice would you like to share with others to help them be more successful or be happier? Go after what you want, not necessarily what others want you to do. Don't worry about what others think - in the end, your own happiness (or unhappiness) is based on your own opinions and doing. It sounds a bit selfish, but you gotta do some things in life for yourself. I have a tendency to worry too much about other's opinions about me and what others want me to do and trying to please everyone else, and it can run you down.2. What failure in your life have you experienced that you feel is important to have lived through to help you grow?Hmmmmm, there's a lot. Girlfriend problems (who I have been with for 8 years now and am going to propose to soon - we had some problems with fidelity in college (both of us were out on our own for the first time and it hit me like a pipebomb - I wasn't ready for the freedom and took too many liberties, and felt awful about it. It's just like "why do I hurt a person that I love this much?" Luckily, we got through it, and I love her. Getting screwed in sports in HS (got cut senior year from baseball and got hurt in football, which turned into a decreased playing time compared to junior year) - which, consequently, indirectly got me to go to Butler and play football and meet the closest friends I have. Almost not getting into medical school - allowed me to realize I have other talents (such as teaching, organic chem, etc.) and that you can't take anything for granted. That you have to work for everything (granted, other things allowed me to learn this, but this sealed it). 3. What would you like to do right now that is just outside of your reach because of one thing (money, people, other resources)? Vegas. Or visiting some friends in Cali. Or going to New Zealand. Money and time right now don't help. Working 80 hours a week and paying tuition...will be $250,000 in debt by the end of 2013. 4. Aside from server/forum/site changes, what is one thing that you would like to see changed about MOTL? Some of the smugness of some of the members. Some people need to realize that they were newbies to the game and to certain online forums once upon a time. Cut some people some slack. 5. What is something that you feel that you are better than most other people at doing? Magic oriented - building great mana bases in Limited. I am very capable of building 3 color decks with 1-2 color helpers and consistently don't have mana problems [aka no mulligans]. It's awesome, because per tourney, that nets me 2 wins. Life oriented - hmmm, I dunno. Making people laugh. If you don't know me too well initially, I do sometimes come off as a dick, because said people don't realize I'm completely joking with everything I say. When it comes to talking smack about people, I am kidding 99.9% of the time - once people get to know me, they laugh, I laugh, and it's all in good fun - making people laugh is one of the best things about human interaction.

Favorite food? Chipotle burritos; BBQ ribs; pineapple/watermelonTen favorite movies? Hmmmmm.... Depends on the genre really. Horrible Bosses, Superbad, StepBrothers, Happy Gilmore comedies. The Dark Knight, Matrix series, LotR series, Shawshank, Law-abiding Citizen, Inception, Star Wars series, etc. When did you get into Magic cards and who/how did you get involved? 1997. First ever favorite card was Lhurgoyf. Got into it because of some grade school friends. They all got out, and I continued to play through Apocalypse, hitting up local Type II tourneys. Got too expensive, and leaving the Weatherlight saga upset me. Since I was only 14-16 with no job, quit playing - sold off my collection. Me and an old pal decided to go to a Ravnica block Sealed event, and I got back into it, strictly Limited. Started going to prereleases - Time Spiral, Future Sight, Lorwyn, Shadowmoor, M12, etc. Mainly play limited, but now have two EDH decks that when I get a chance to play, I play. Are we (America) going into a depression? The recent Dow Jones would say we are still in one, despite the previous upward trend. I don't follow the economic market that closely, but I would say we are still in a state of low economic growth, not necessarily a depression in the sense like back in the 60s. The problem is that Democrats come up with bad ideas, and Republicans find ways to make them worse. They are greedy bastards who get pension plans even after getting involved in sexting scandals and live off it for the rest of their lives. It's bull****. Yet people can still sue physicians for Millions of dollars for complications that arise after surgery - complications that they are told about when they consent. The system sucks.
Where do you see the future of America's economy and general state heading and what could be done, in your opinion, to better it? Another one of these. Ugh. As for health care, we need tort reform. I know, I know, most people don't think that's the answer. I'm not saying it is the end all be all, but it definitely will help the situation. Look at it this way: individuals can sue physicians for "emotional damage etc etc" and cap on said damages is ridiculously high (I understand the concept of "so the physician doesn't make the same mistake twice," but they aren't paying that money - the insurance company is), but it's crazy high. So malpractice premiums go up. How do the physicians counter this? Increase the fees for their services. Oh, that camera piece I put in for laparscopic surgery? Extra $100 now. That office visit, $35 more. You put a cap on the amount people can sue for (emotion damage portions - obviously, the actual amount of damage - if disability or death, needs to be adjusted corresponding to the amount of damage) malpractice insurance decreases, and the cost to the consumer/customer decreases. So in essence, those individuals who sue physicians for crazy amounts of money end up increasing the price for health coverage to all the consumers. Doesn't help that insurance company administrators are just as greedy and stupid as the politicians, but I digress. As for the economy as a whole, no idea how to fix it. Congress and the different political parties need to stop worrying about their own asses and start worrying about the masses (ooh, that rhymed). I really do think the U.S. needs a revolution, or a large revolutionary movement, to spark something. __________________ -Schmitty 7th in Refs [193] in OH-IO (Catching up to jmedina) 2nd in Posts [5887] in OH-IO (Have a long way to go to catch Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

Haha no. It's August 27th, 1987. Still not the reason for the 27 though. In grade school, when I created the account, there was this obsession with the number 27. I don't know how it started, and I don't care, but for some reason, it became a mainstream thing in my grade school amongst the boys. 27 * 2 = 54. Stupid I know. Wish I could change my username though.

Favorite Magic card? Can't pick just one. So I'll go based on each time I played. 1996 - Lhurgoyf 1997 - Viashivan Dragon 1998 - Serra Avatar, Child of Gaea 1999 - Ancient Silverback 2000 - Opposition, Deranged Hermit, Rising Waters, Treachery, Rebels 2001 - Fires of Yavimaya, Rith the Awakener, Wild Research 2002 - Shivan Wurm, Desolation Angel Post 2002 - TSP Block - loved the idea of Planar Chaos, and loved the concept of Future Sight. Favorites cards are probably the Magi. Favorite cards I own? Probably my FOIL Yawgmoth's Bargain - first foil I ever pulled. Still remember the day, where I was at, and who I was with. And then my signed Morphling.
Favorite Magic color? Green, by far. I am an aggro freak. Only problem is, aggro hasn't been great for green since Fires. Tear. Favorite Magic deck? Light Fires (splash white for Armadillo Cloak/Rith), Academy Rector/Pattern of Rebirth combo, U/G Madness, Rebels, and all-time favorite, Rising Waters Favorite Magic format?Back in the day, Urza's Block/MMQ standard. Now, TSP block limited or EDH If you could make or unmake any one change to Magic what would it be? Why? That's tough. Possibly revisit the Weatherlight saga - I know I know, they did with Scars block, but it's just not the same. I miss Gerrard, Mirri, etc., or revisit the days or Urza's Block. The art in those days (cards like Tinker etc. was AMAZING back then). Or change the card frame to the Future shifted cards, or go back to the old card frames. These current frames blow.

Think this has been hashed out. Currently, I play whenever I get a chance - usually once every month, and it usually consists of EDH or limited during the weekend, depending on when the store is playing said format. Started back around Visions. Miss the days of River Boa and Mirage Block - loved the art back then too. Loved the African type culture - great stuff.

1) What are your top three favorite artists/bands/musicians, and why? Again, depends on Genre. Rock - Rise Against, Three Days Grace, Alien Ant Farm - all three are solid all around. Classic Rock - Queen (born and raised), Pink Floyd (revolutionary), Eric Clapton/Cream (love his acoustic songs) Rap - Ludacris (love his lyrics and beats), T.I. (love his lyrics), Eminem (say what you want about him, the guy is a genius on the mic)
2) What are your top three favorite television shows, and why? Entourage (the 5 main characters are me and my 4 college roommates - I'm not kidding), Always Sunny (those guys are great), The League (most hysterical show on TV). Done. Used to be 24 and House, but they got stale. South Park is great, but some episodes not so hot sometimes. What are your top three favorite books, and why? Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card) - the psychology is great. If it becomes a movie, it's gonna be butchered. Hyperspace (Michio Kaku) - I love astrophysics, but my background isn't all that great - he is great at using terms and examples 'somewhat educated but not in physics people' understand. I'm reading Chris Jericho's 2nd autobiography right now, but don't know what would be my 3rd. Probably the rest of Orson Scott Card's Ender/Bean series. 4) What are your top three favorite films, and why? Matrix, Inception, Shawshank 5) How's med school going? What are your plans once you graduate? (are you looking at becoming a General Physician, Anesthesiologist, etc)? It's rough right now. In my first rotation - surgery. Working 80 hours a week, and paying 50,000 this year to do it. Leaves a sour taste in your mouth. But it beats the hell out of sitting in a classroom. Just sucks we still have to study after 12 hour days. Dunno what I want to do just yet - my Step 1 (Licensing Exam test you have to pass after 2nd year) wasn't great, so my options are limited (no Plastics, Radiology, Orthopedics for me). I like surgery, just don't know if I could do it day in and day out. Right now I'm intrigued by Family practice (with a fellowship in Sports Med and Derm so I can be the team doctor for a HS) and Internal Medicine (Nephrology, Endocrinology). I love the kidney.

Could you expand on the following comment:quote: Originally posted by ryan2754: So any decks, such as Mimeoplasm, that use Eldrazi are really annoyign to play against. It's not fun.
Do you mean the Eldrazi Titans or the Spawn? The fact that they come with a built in sacrifice outlet that allows for some accelration? I am interested in hearing more.

It's the big ass ones like Emrakul.Oh yay, discard Emrakul and Skithryx. Play Mimeoplasm with counter backup. Give Skithryx Haste. Game over via Infect Counters. Or hell discard any Big Creature (6+/6+) + Emrakul. Do the same thing, but deal the 21 damage. Make it unblockable. It just makes for very unfun games in a casual format. Takes no skill.

Do you mean some large creature besides emrakul, like krosan cloudscraper? (emrakul doesn't work with Mr. Rex at all and actually completely FUBARs the deck's strategy [high-fives self for managing to make this point while still asking a question]) __________________ "I never got any respect at all. Then I guess it must've been the one's that don't shuffle the graveyard. The big ones that are like 11/11 that don't do that. Either way, still not fun. (Emrakul and friends were in a mana ramp deck I played against) __________________ -Schmitty 7th in Refs [193] in OH-IO (Catching up to jmedina) 2nd in Posts [5887] in OH-IO (Have a long way to go to catch Val) “If Brad Stevens is the future of coaching in college basketball, the sport is in a good place.” - Rick Pitino

Do you miss Mafia/Werewolf?Absolutely.What did you like about them? The critical thinking. Sure, I was one of the people to harp people and try and get under people's skin, but it seemed that on these boards.. What did you not like about them?...everyone took everything as a personal attack. I really don't understand why everyone had such a tough time playing the game. Granted, my first game, I went off on Liq much the same way as what some people do that got the game killed, but I learned from it. People need thicker skin, and need to realize that if someone suspects you, they are not a bad person, and that they are not calling u a bad person. Each player plays their own game - like it or dislike it, it doesn't matter - you just have to do with it. If you could change them, what would you do?Where's PD? HAHAHA. I would like to run one - seems like everyone else always beats me to the punch. I would need some help with flavor, but I would change the time limit for the rounds - I would attempt the mafiascum.net way to play. Trust me, it goes longer, but rounds only take as long as they need to.
