MOTL's big advantage is that it combines the ease of buying from an online store with the prices of ebay. Online stores are great because you can buy a ton of cards without getting hosed on shipping or having to buy from a dozen different sellers, but most online stores are more expensive than ebay, especially when it comes to staples. Try finding Tarmogoyfs or Dark Confidants at a reasonable price from Starcity or Strike Zone or CCGHouse. On MOTL there are a zillion sellers with them, at ebay prices or close.
If you can't recall, I was 100% for the rule that if DC said it is there, is there. I would agree that buying on MOTL is great IF the sellers don't ask you to pay 4% and ask you waive your right, but this rarely happens. __________________ MOTL Fantasy NBA 2010 ChampionYou know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocketship underpants don't help.

I tried to ignore that thread. MOTL is like that little corner store that you support because it's there, even though Wal-Mart is cheaper most of the time.__________________ Looking for misprinted Commander decks. Got one? Talk to me.

I tried to support MOTL until I realized a lot of the sellers here are just clueless when it comes to pricing. Here is the most recent example I've encountered: I put up a buy list for Xx Foil Olivia Voldaren @ $12/ea shipped, and a few people told me my buy price is way too low, and quoted me prices from $14-18 each instead. So I went onto eBay and checked all the recent completed auction prices, and they all ended at $36 - $44/set. I ended up buying a set of them for $33 + $2 shipping off eBay. As you can see, MOTL's T/A quality is as good as the sellers that are running them, and unfortunately, I would say a lot of them are really not up to par. You are one of the few people that I like to buy from, but since you are no longer running the show, there is really no incentive to buy here other than a few odd ball stuff that I couldn't find on eBay. __________________ MOTL Fantasy NBA 2010 ChampionYou know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocketship underpants don't help.

There are certainly better venues for specific needs, as I've found tcgplayer to be outstanding in terms of purchasing playsets of useful commons/uncommons like tragic slip/qasali pridemage/lingering souls because the heavy competition combined with heavy supply on that site encourages pricing that can't be matched by people selling personal collections (yet you reap the rewards of StarCity values when you trade away the aforementioned cards ). It's pretty clear that this discussion has served it's purpose. My original intent was to get a "heads-up" on the T/A forum, since the price points didn't add up with the trade restrictions. I totally understand buyers wanting to seek out a market that gives them greater flexibility and profit margins at the cost of sales volume and speed. Hell, the business I work for is a shining example of that business model. I still plan on browsing the T/A forum for deals, but now I'm not going to be perplexed when I see some dude trying to sell Gut Shots for $2 a piece, or mox diamonds for $40.

Yep, seems so. Some sellers do charge outrageous prices, but those are really easy to weed out. I saw someone trying to sell Darkslick Shores for $17 or something recently on top of a bunch of other various Standard stuff for like 20-25% above average eBay prices. That just doesn't work. On the other hand, it's interesting to me that sellers aren't considered "up to par" to some people unless they (a) charge shipping below what it actually costs to ship, (b) accept responsibility for lost/stolen/damaged packages even when the buyer deliberately chooses cheap shipping rather than paying for protection, and (c) sell cards for less than their average value. Yeah... I think I'll remain below par and still have no problems selling my stuff.

Maybe you got to ask yourself why it is profitable for most eBay sellers to sell their goods with cheaper shipping, more responsibility, and better value, but you couldn't do it to stay competitive.

You missed the part (once again) where I'm still perfectly competitive and continue to make sales. I can most certainly afford to lose the most demanding buyers, retain the other 95%, and still be fine in any market I sell in.
