I ended up acquiring 5 of the 9 Black Lotus pieces and 2 of the 9 Chaos Orb pieces. Which pieces are hard to find and how much do these go for

I can't say for sure, but I believe Black Lotus piece #9 and Chaos Orb piece #7 are the rare ones. The only thing I have to base that off of is those are the only ones I've never seen, but it could be I've seen the rare pieces and just didn't know it.

Overall, they usually go for about $10-15 apiece.

Not to high jack the thread, but when were these produced or what did they come from? I have a couple pieces I got from a random collection I acquired a while back.

Any help to learn a little more MTG history is appreciated.

Regards...Greg

Librarities is always a good bet for info like that. They're not the best at validating new forum members but alas, that's another story.

They were distributed one random piece with each pack of Ultra Pro sleeves. The first to collect (and send to Ultra Pro) a full Lotus got 1000 $ and 500 $ for the Orb. The competition ran out sometime 1997 or so and the pieces are getting harder to find.

Full Lotus was approximated to cost about 300-400 $ a couple of years back, but I don't know the current value. In both puzzles there is one rare piece, that can get over 200 $, if the right buyer can be found. Others are about 10-15 $.

Your prize values are a bit off. Check the insert for the prize values. During the contest, the completed Black Lotus puzzle was worth $250 and the Chaos Orb puzzle was worth $100.

On a related note, does anyone know which numbers were the 'rare' pieces?

When I followed the link the Cubsfan gave us, it confirmed coasterdudes post that #9 of the Lotus and #7 of the Orb to be Ultra Rare. After checking completed listings on the bay I saw 1 go out @ $9 and a few that didn't go out @ $25.
