Where is the cheapest place to pick up a playset of these and what am I looking to spend?

Playset of Alpha Howling Mines? NM $500 easily...Alpha rare playsets should demand get a premium (due to the low availability). Abu has 3 played ones at the moment for 70 bucks each

What would a beta one w/ a crease on it be worth?Crease is about 1/4 inch in on one of the corners, like a dog ear'd page out of a book.

Beta ones run about 50-55, so that one would be considerably less.-Matt

Just curious but why would you want alpha when beta is more available and cheaper to acquire -especially "NM"? The playability of alpha having rounded corners versus beta also makes me wonder. Also, not trying to influence your decision but you could pick up a play set of beta Howling Mine in "EX" condition for around $200 whereas a play set of truly "NM" alpha would run well over $300.

since there is really no playability issue between alpha and beta, since both are legal to play in sleeves. I'd take alpha over beta any day for the pimp and rarity factor.

Alpha NM is worth more than Beta NM due to lower supply of Alpha compared to Beta. As conditions get worse then Beta starts to become worth more than Alpha as it has lost it's "collectors" value.

To find the cheapest available: check eBay auctions often and you can get HP Beta Howling Mines in the $20-30 range. But they don't come around often, so it will take a long time to collect a playset.@ogre: I sold the Beta below for $30 recently. http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa381/mliniscus/Artifacts/Howling_Mine_Front.jpg http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa381/mliniscus/Artifacts/Howling_Mine_Back.jpg

Because I am building a deck and I want every card in it to be it's original version. I'm even trying to get 16x Alpha Mountains.
