Topic: Is this still a stupid question? Should I crack a box of Khans at $90?

I love posts like this http://www.reddit.com/r/mtgfinance/comments/2hclzu/updated_ev_for_khans_of_tarkir_going_into_release/I'm curious what you guys think? At what price point does it make sense to open a box of Khans right now? When do you think prices will drop enough that it's a losing proposition (if it isn't already)?

On this set it seems to depend. If you open a sarkan those boxes don't usually have more then 1 fetchland in it. There were so many promos that the rares are going to be hit. On the other side I have seen 5 fetches in one box without sarkhan. One in three boxes should have a sarkan in it so do the math.

Depends if you're trying make money or just enjoy opening a box. For this set, with the fetches there to help drive things, I think these are a decent pick up anything short of $100. I don't tend to buy alot of boxes simply because I have terrible luck (ask Child of Gaea) but this is one set I'd probably take a stab at again with a box.

I'd totally agree with jellyfishfanatic on this. Haven't bought a box since 2000ish (just bought packs here and there for draft or the rares I needed & traded for the rest), but this set actually gives me the itch to open one. There is quite a lot of chaff from what packs I've bought that I opened, but about 40% of the packs I've opened I've been ok with the rares The common dual lands KILLED my foil guildgates for my EDH and now need a whole new slew of foils >

I pulled one of each fetch + other relevant things in my box the other. I'm starting to notice a trend that pre-ordered boxes and prize packs from the pre-order are having a nicer haul than release boxes. Could be a bias on a lack of data, but friends all over the country are telling me the same exact thing.

I would much rather spend money on drafting the set.

Lol ! I know of a person who got 8 fetches from booster box, then another one got 7 fetches from another booster box. The most unlucky one got 1 fetch from booster box

I opened a case and had 3 nearly identical boxes. Mythics were Sarkhan, Surrak, wingmate roc, see the unwritten (2 of the 3 boxes), foil was ghostfire blade in 2 of 3 and only had 1-2 fetches in each. 2 other boxes I opened were also nearly identical, mythics were Sorin, Empty the Pits, Hooded Hydra, Narset, Enlightened Master, and Pearl Lake Ancient/Ugin's Nexus. In those boxes I opened 5 fetches per, both had 2 deltas. First set I have ever opened were the boxes have ever felt so similar.

By the numbers here my box was really good then. I got 4 fetches and 5 mythics, to include a Sarkhan, Wingmate Roc, and Surrak. I would definitely onpen another box for $90, if not jsut for the thrill of opening a box and the chance at a Foil Fetchland..

Thanks. Just picked up 2 boxes for $175. If I don't find 7 others to draft with me asap I'll just open them.

I opened a Korean box, and it was weird and TERRIBLE. 1 fetch - WG 4 mythic - Sorin, Roc, Eye of Ugin, WGB 4/4But the worst part was that the entire box was full of double rares - if you got one, odds are there was another in the box. 2x each of six different rares, all worth 25 cents, and they were always very close to each other too. 2x Dragon Throne were back to back, and had 2/3 same uncommons, and 9/11 same commons... Worst box I've ever opened.

I picked up a Japanese box for $110 from my LGS. Definitely high up there as far as boxes that I've opened. 5 fetches (one of each), both planeswalkers, wingmate roc, rattleclaw mystic, ashcloud phoenix, utter end, siege rhino, sidisi, some other non bulk rares too.

Just opened 1 of the 2 boxes and only got 1 fetchland (Bloodstained Mire) :-|Rares were all bleh, mythics were Wingmate Roc (foil) ashcloud phoenix sorin, solemn visitor zurgo helmsmasher sidishi, blood tyrant totals a little over $50 buy list :-\ and not a single copy of the new goblin guide :-| edit out of desperation i opened the 2nd box and i'm glad i did. MUCH BETTER. bloodsoaked champion empty the pits sarkhan, the dragonspeaker rattleclaw mystic 2 wooded foothills 1 windswept heath 1 flooded strand 1 polluted delta 1 siege rhino 1 butcher of the horde 1 anafenza 2 surrak dragonclaw (1 foil) and finally 1 of those damn new goblin guides lol. so probably about $114 buy list. combined i got about $164 buy list after paying $175. not too bad. glad i opened that 2nd box.

I have the opportunity to get a Russian box for $160. Wondering if it's worth it, and also wondering if I should crack it. It seems like there's a decent amount of C/U foils that will be high value (Ancestral, Charms, Goblin Guide, etc) and if you're lucky enough to pull a foil fetch that will hold a hefty price tag. Plus, all the non-foil playables are probably worth a decent amount, plus fetches.
