Hello! I can't seem to find any point of reference for a PSA 10 Mox Diamond I own and am looking to move. Any one familiar with grading that could help me out with an estimation on a perfect 10? Thanks! Carl

Well, it's PSA instead of BGS so that hurts it. Here is a BGS 9.5 the seller tried to sell for $288 for a long time. I believe they were willing to accept $230 at one point based off some older versions of the auction. If yours is in about the same condition as this bgs 9 then it's worth less than 140 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mox-Diamond-Stronghold-Magic-the-Gathering-MTG-BGS-Graded-9-0-Near-Mint-MINT-NM-/262652860047? probably worth somewhere between 95-140. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mox-Diamond-Stronghold-Magic-the-Gathering-MTG-BGS-Graded-7-5-Near-Mint-/112039846087?hash=item1a161860c7:g:zIgAAOSwbYZXcJoJ http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTG-Magic-the-Gathering-Stronghold-Mox-Diamond-Nearmint-/222187941148?hash=item33bb6eed1c:g:agQAAOSwARZXiVja You could get BGS to regrade it.

I don't think the BGS/PSA comparison is as contentious as that. I know a number of older (50 years+) collectors that have no problem with PSA, likely because they're familiar with it from baseball and/or non-sports cards. BGS is preferred slightly in the MTG crowd, but a PSA 10 is at least as valuable as a BGS 9.5. That said, graded cards are a bit tricky. I don't think there's a lot of people looking to complete a high grade set of Stronghold, so the collector vs. player market isn't as skewed as for something like Power. I think $200 is a reasonable value, but you may have to sit on it for a while. I wouldn't take less than $150.

My perspective on PSA/Becketts...It has to be a high value card for most people. People looking for pristine cards are collectors NOT players. The people collecting cards over playing are far less then people who simply just play. A player would almost never buy a slabbed card because they would have to break it out of the case to use it. Mox Diamond is on the low end of things you would want graded...since its so low, the value increase on grading it is minor compared to say power 9. Also the rarity of a Mox Diamond is really not all that rare compared to Alpha. I would say Rarer end spectrum cards in pristine condition can fetch 2-3 times value with a high grade. I would say lower end ones maybe 1.25-1.5x. Many times its not worth the $20-40 grading fee (assuming your not a subscriber), and multiple $15-20 shipping with insurance fees.

As a personal preference I wouldn't get anything graded outside of anything 93-94 printing of cards regardless of value of the card. There are few exceptions that a high value graded card newer than 94 will make enough of a value difference and Mox Diamond may be one of those cards but most collectors want graded cards to be high value cards from the first sets in the game. Gaea's Cradle and Rishadan Port may be some other grade worthy cards but not too much outside of there.

+1 for both implode and mm1983. I think cards that have been reprinted shouldn't be graded with only few that are an exception (foil tarmogoyf, foil jace from their original sets). Mox Diamond shouldn't have been graded and if it was should have been sold/moved prior to the FTV reprint. Pretty much low balled at this point +$20 for grading reimbursement.
