I was just wondering if MOTL could make our thread topics available to edit. the reason being, sometimes i want to change my H/W list title (to emphasize what i'm looking for) without having to start a new thread. this would also be great for the TA/sale threads... if you could allow this in the marketplace that would be greatthanks

This has been suggested many times and most likely will not happen because of the re-indexing that would have to take place for the trade matcher for each thread title that was edited. Actually this was suggested here. Nder provides some good reasoning. knightowl __________________ AIM~ MYim2 Refs|rfugiel@gmail.com|

I don't get how the re-indexing would be such a problem. It seems to me that the list wouldn't match right until midnight or whenever the site updates, but then it would work, which is already the case when you edit your haves or wants. It doesn't update right away anyway. The site doesn't get that much traffic (I don't think I've seen the users online be above 100 in a long time), and I guess I don't understand why what BlackCollector said in that thread is wrong.

ditto. the re-indexing is automatic and would just update on it's own. the same would happen whether we kept our list, created a new one, or just changed the title. it's just easier to change the title so we don't have to post an entire new list. this would be a great option (as almost all other forums have it) and i think the mods should consider it.. we should take a poll or something

It's unfortunate that MOTL doesn't have a poll option, either. As far as I can tell, the difference between MOTL and most of the other forums you'll visit is that MOTL works off a different forum base. MTGNews and MTGSalvation (and Misetings, and almost every other forum I've been to thats worth visiting again) uses vBulletin, whereas MOTL uses UBB. I don't know how easy it is to update MOTL with new features, but I know that it's incredibly easy to keep vB boards up-to-date once you've figured out what you're doing. I can only suppose that MOTL isn't very easy to change, because simple suggestions like adding a Casual icon, changing the smiley (it's not round), and so on haven't been implemented months after their suggestion. With vB, you can upload new smileys, skins, and hacks within minutes, and there's a large community out there of people who know how to make things for vB. I don't know if that exists for UBB.

The problem with switching to a new forum base is that MOTL has sooooo many customizations (like references, H/W list searches, etc.--in other words, everything that makes MOTL great!) that it is H-A-R-D to move the custom code over. More than likely, Leshrac would have to start from scratch.Ain't gonna happen till he gets a TON of free time. I'm going to close this thread. If you want to continue the discussion, do it on the thread linked above. __________________ If you see a rules violation, PM me a link and I will take care of it.
